Exclamation Dj equipment, Mixers, TT's, etc...HELP plz !

Well, I have been looking dj gear sites for days, and checking and comparing the prices of TT's, Cd decks, mixers...But the problem is, what kind of system I should buy...

I'm planning to spend 600-700$ for everything.(I know that I can almost buy 2 Technichs mk2's with this money, nothing more )

But I found out, that most of the dj gear sites offer dj packs which have mixer, 2 cdplayers (or Turntables) and cables etc. Gemini has for example Dis O Mix Pro 3.0. It has 2 cd players (CDJ-20), 1 mixer(PS-525PRO) and cables, headphone etc. There are so many of these kind of packages.
1) cd or TT ? I have lots of cds, and mp3 for sure, but not a single vinyl...Almost every1 said, that I should buy TT's and start buying vinlys. What do you guys think?
2) if TT, shall I buy them separtely, or in package. And the most important question, which ones ?
3) And of course mixer...Any suggestions? Some people recommended me Numark DM1001X/EX. But I have no personal exp. about that.

please tell me your opinions...I know the best and most expensive gear, but what I need is, good gear for the money...

Hey man,
Well it all depends on you...
I was in the same boat as you not that long ago, but i decided to buy turntables.
Im pretty happy with them and everything, but the only thing that pisses me off is that you have to spend so much money on vinyl!!!
But if you have a nice income that will allow you to buy records then I think you should buy turntables.
Here's what you can buy for your 700:
I would probably suggest you buy Gemini SA 600, these seem to be nice decks, and inexpensive. They have high torque and they are direct driven(basicly all you need for begining)Check it out
If you get those decks you will have a lot of money left for a mixer, I would probably recomend a vestx PMC 170A it's a really nice mixer, and you can afford it Click here to check it out
But if you want to buy a lot of records, you can probably buy some gemini mixer.

Hope this wll help

P.S. Check out the turntables and mixers @ hollywooddj, they got some nice prices there. Te only thing you need to know when you are buying a turntable is that it MUST to be directdriven.

Hey, I just got my equipment after doing months (I'm serious :P ) of research, so I can give a few tips.

When you have decided on what equipment you're going to get. Surf around the net for the best prices (obviously), print the website and goto a local music store selling the same equipment, and ask for a price match. Most places do it. If there is no local store, call up a liable website store and ask for a price match.

I usually use 123dj.com for the lowest prices. I haven't seen a website that can beat them. 123dj.com is a bad choice to order stuff from however. They have bad customer service, the sales guy has an attitude problem, and their equipment is shady.

Depending on taxes and shipping, you might be able to get a cheaper shipping than paying tax.

When I'm more sober, I'll give you some equipment suggestions. )

hey.. yea.. i agree with the post by scott... 123dj is a very good place to get a cheap price but DO NOT BUY from them b/c of the reasons stated on the above reply and also b/c i heard from a lot of people that they are REALLY bad at handeling their products.. meaning that you might get some damaged goods. so i suggest you get the price from them then go to a reliable store or website... i HIGHLY recommend www.pssl.com .... they match your price and also they beat it by 10% ! so try them.... they have really good customer service so call their toll free number and ask any questions you want.

what do u guys think of Gemini SA 600 or Numark DM1001X/EX, Vestx PMC 170A etc...?

anymore suggestions?

(btw, I think I made up my mind about Turntables, but still have no idea which one of them ...)

TT vs. CD's

Hi there ... before you buy TT's I'd like to share some of my experience with you.
Not that I don't like TT's, I'd really like to spin them myself.
Here's my deal:

I live in Denmark (Europe). I'm a dj myself (though not full time... : ). I run a mobile disco with a friend of mine. Even though I'd like to spin vinyl it would be impossible for me. The reason is that no-one dances to the stuff coming out on vinyl (at least here in Denmark - I don't know how things are in the States). People only dance to music they hear on the radio and music they already know. I've always dj'ed with cd's. EVERY club here in Denmark owns Denon or Pioneer. Not all clubs here own TT's. And some of them that do own TT's own some very bad old ones. I've been to many events with other mobile jocks and I've never seen any mobile jock use vinyl. I know if I'd run vinyl I'd be outta business very soon. I know a guy who only runs vinyl. He gets his music imported from UK. He's outta business. And if he plays, he only plays 1 or 2 hours as a warming up for some club. My point is: consider what you're going to play, to whom you'll be playing. If you want to play in a club that plays trance music only on vinyls, then TT's is what you're looking for. On the other hand, of you're considering playing for an audience like the one I play for, then definately cd's. I think that's the sole important thing to think about before buying the equipment. (unless of course you're not thinking on making any money out of it but just want to have some fun, then you can choose whatever ..)

Also, I have the Numark you're talking about. I like the looks of it. It seems nice. I've never played with it though : )
But seems to me that the mixer is not THAT important as long as it's not crappy. It's more important to be comfortable with your TT's or cd-deck.

Well, I just thought I'd tell you how I feel.
I hope you can use this for something ... remember I said I don't know how things work in the States. But here you can't buy all the radio music as vinyl.
Well, anyways... I'm out

btw.... :)

If I were you ... I know you're starting up and you ain't got that much cash on you, so I think it'd be wise to buy used equipment. If you have a friend, check out his/her equipment. And when you buy used make sure you know it isn't crap.
Well, that's all.. for now.

hey marq... you are in a very odd situation... no one uses vinyls in your area??? well hmmm its strange b/c mostly everyone uses TT's here in the states... and most parts of the world... but i have to admit that CD's are in too but only as a back up kinda thing. and esp now that FINAL SCRATCH is being released ... i think spinning CD's is gonna go downhill... well, thats my thought on that. but theres nothing wrong with spinning CD's

thanks marQ...

I agree on that. It's important as u said, to find a place to play the vinyls. But it's weird, that Djs with vinyls are out of business...

anyways, I'm stiil looking for more info on TT's...

nono, vinyl is still predominant in clubs. what marQ is talking about is mobile dj's... you know, the kind who do weddings, and parties like that, where they bring the equipment and lighting and smoke machines.

of course those guys spin cd's... cuz ppl are gonna request stuff like vengaboys and the macarena...

alot of those ppl don't really beatmatch their music anyways, they just cross fade the songs... sounds horrible, like for my school's prom... ugh

quddha is right!
except we do beat mix ... hehehe

no, but i've talked to some people and they've told me that in the states they all play vinyl in the clubs, so that's pretty much a difference from here where almost nobody plays vinyl in clubs.

well tahts good then. Cuz over here, I haven't seen a mobile dj that properly beatmatches. The one who did our school prom last year beatmatched for like, 3 seconds and then faded it over cuz it started galloping away.
