Problem with mp3 playback on my cdj 1000 mk3

They're brand new. I don't think they're defective, but sometimes (rarely) when playing certain mp3s, the player just stops. E-83 04 is the error message that pops up. I say it happens rarely but actually, if I play for more than a couple hours, it's likely to happen.

I understand that it's probably got something to do with my computer or cd burner (which kinda suck so it's not surprising) but I was wondering if anyone else is having this problem and if there's an easy fix.

The files play fine on my computer and if I convert them to wav format, they play fine on my cdjs. Therefore, I never know if the problem exists unless I play every track on the cd all the way through on the player. This sucks because I do a lot of gigs and people pay me good money to play and when the music suddenly dies, it reflects poorly on me.

This never happened with my Denon DN-D4000 dual players which also play mp3s yet I paid 4x the price to upgrade to the Pioneers! Just doesn't seem right.

Have you got the latest firmware on them?

Reading the CDJ-1000 mk3 manual (quick Google reveals a pdf at: http://www.performanceaudio.com/med.../162/3716_m.pdf), error E-83 4 corresponds to
"Does not conform to MP3 format.
= Change to disc conforming to MP3 format."

If I were to venture a guess, I'd say maybe the Pioneer MP3 decoding isn't as flexible or something... maybe a firmware update will resolve it.

Can't really think at the moment, though. Personally, I wouldn't use MP3s, but I understand and acknowledge it's usefulness (burning 40+ tracks/CD if you're in a pinch).

Also try burning the mp3s at a lower speed on the computer, and use good quality CDRs. Make sure also that if you burn at say 24x, that the CDRs are 24x, and not lower like say 12x ones.

Yeah, I have a few thousand songs I need to put onto cd and I burn two of each so burning wav cds isn't exactly ideal nor is it economical.

Can you recommend a good CDR brand? Right now, I'm using Imation. I usually burn them at 16x but even when I bump down to 8x I have the same problem.

I use the Sony audio brand CDR. They're meant specifically for good audio quality, costs $20 for 50 of them, but they're fantastic.

Stay away from cheap brands. I've had a few too many data CDRs fail on me (usually redundant cyclic errors, kind of like a bridged groove on vinyl).

I think I'm using Imation-brand CDs; I bought inkjet printable ones, even though I don't actually have a printer. There's one brand (the original) known for it's quality and archivability, but I'm not sure if that's necessary for this application. They're slightly more expensive, but it's probably worth it. The brand name is Tao Yuiden or something like that. I think Imation should be fine, but you should try another brand to see if it's your CDs or your CDJs (since they seem to play fine in other players).
