What else are they gonna tax?" wonders Councillor Rob Ford. "It's not going to end." But Fletcher argues it's a necessity and will help control the stray cat population in Toronto. "The tools are already in place," she argues. "We have animal bylaws, we have the Humane Society, if there are stray cats, you call these people, they pick 'em up, just like they do with dogs." Animal licensing brought more than a million dollars into city coffers last year alone, mostly from dogs. Now, forcing licenses on all cats has some owners scratching for answers. "I think it's stupid because there's so many cats already out there, and its so hard for people to adopt them," worries Stephanie Dacosta. The city says a large number of residents have gotten the message. Some 10,000 have already ponyed up the money for the license. They expect you to follow suit. You know it's a tax grab when the city hires door-to-door solicitors to collect the cash.

I told the guy to GTF off my property the first year, and he was pissed.

Meh I could care less, I hate cats. My roommate brought one home with out telling me and is making me look after it HA! Way for us to spend more money on useless things!!!

OK, well my cats are sterilized, and stay indoors, but are not up to date on vaccines (cuz they stay indoors). Will I be penalized for that? One of my cats hasn't even been to a vet in 7 yrs, he's a healthy boy.

And the lady told me this law is not new- they've been licensing them since '99. I guess the door to door cash grabbers started pounding the pavement this Jan.

Aren't they wasting a lot more money in paying people to knock on these doors to look for cats than they get from people paying for the licensing of the cats?
