Sorry about your luck Allied Nations. Although I do agree with you on the aspect of a poorly manufactured product, you do fail to mention the positive aspects (though few and far between).
I love the sound of the Stanton DJ Pro 3000's. They've been my babies for quite some time now. I love how they give that little rumble when you crank the volume. They're exceptionally comfortable, and just great sounding headphones.
However...
Within 2 years of using them, I am on my 8th pair. Yes, that's correct, you read that right: 8th pair.
Luckily, I live in Canada, and they had a warranty program in place so that if you break them, they over-the-counter exchange them on the spot for new ones. One store decided not to adhere to this policy so I had to find another place that had them to do the swap out once they inevitably broke, in the same spot, over and over again.
But hey, why listen to me: I've gone through 8 pairs of headphones. I MUST be rough with them right? Heh, unfortunately once again, I'm not. I baby my gear, way too much. I don't let anyone use my stuff, and I am constantly inspecting it to make sure everything is the way it should be.
I now have a backup pair that I constantly travel with just in case I break them during a gig. Headphones are quite important for DJ's and all
If you have an understanding store that you get your gear from who knows the trouble with them, no problem as they sound great. If you don't know, or aren't sure on the return policy for a product that WILL break eventually (usually it's sooner than later unfortunately) I'd choose a different set of cans.
