Do you use Audacity or know about saving recorded files? help!

hey fellow TA's , i just got my Imic2 in the mail and it works nicely, but i was playing around an dput a 30 minute set together, and i exported it as one single file in WAV format. now I was expecting it to be no larger then 50mb, but it turned out to be 350mb. Can anyone briefly explain why it ends up being this large, and how I can change that... cheers
Loz

You're expecting it to be 50MB because that's what a high-quality MP3 would be. A .WAV is close to, if not uncompressed. It has all of your data in the highest quality possible. You can download DBPoweramp to convert your .WAV to MP3, or you can download the LAME codec and write it to MP3 right from Audacity. I'd go with the second option, because DBPoweramp needs LAME (as far as I know).

Yes, one minute of a wav is about 10MB.

idoru is exactly right about the file size. All you need is the LAME codec and you can export to MP3 from within Audacity. Download the latest LAME installer, install it, then tell Audacity where you put it on your computer and you should be good to go.
