Had my edirol pcrm30 (midi keyboard) for about 2 years now which i dont consider very long. Its worked solidly for me up until about three months ago when about 40% of the keys have just suddenly died. Not sending out any midi messages, just stopped working. The weird thing is some of the keys that I know i use more often (clip launching in ableton) are still working so its not as if its because I've been banging away at certain keys.
Anyway this was my first keyboard so I'd like to know.. Does this sound like a fairly common thing to happen and that I basically need to throw it away and buy a new one or could it be some sort of loose connection that could easily be fixed?

well i dont know? but i have had a near problem with my edirol pcr-m50 although 1 key was sending out a lower velocity note compared to others. but it's gone and i think i cleared it or somethin?
have you done much editing with it's midi features that may cause this?
good luck

Hmm, thats odd, one of my PCR30's did the same thing a couple of weeks ago. I thought it may ahve been because I was using it as control surface, but if it is that I can't get it back to the wayit should be.
Wonder if I should contact Edirol Support....

I had a PCR30 for about a year - I only used it about 2-3 times as I had a bigger keyboard to use. Plugged it in one day, and half the keys didn't work. After some research, I found out that it was a common fault with Edirol keyboards. So I rang Edirol support in the UK and they basically said "Tough.. Its out of warranty"..
I was so pissed off, not hardly used the keyboard and then half the keys not working. So, stay away from Edirol keyboards. They're shite. :-)

Interesting, I haven't had mine as long (about a year and a half perhaps) but it's definitely something I'll watch out for now.
I wonder if it could be dust or dirt buildup. Have you tried using some compressed air?
You kinda get what you pay for, I think - all of these cheap keyboards have problems, including the M-Audio and Emu ones. If you want better quality you're generally looking at an entirely different price range ($800+).

Well thats really pissed me off then if the keyboard is just fucked. Fair enough if a few keys that I constantly banged away on stopped working, but to have half of them just die all of a sudden is wank.
So it looks like I need a new keyboard but i have no money. So my question..Can anyone recommend a CHEAP keyboard that is known to be reliable. I dont need fancy knobs and sliders (I've got my UC33e and can still use the edirol aswell for that), I dont need loads of octaves. I just need the keys to be reliable, no fancy featues necessary.
Cheers

I also have an M-Audio o2 keyboard and i've never had any issues with that in over 18 months of using it. So I'd recommend an M-Audio keyboard.
