Minaya-Reflections February 07..Micah, 16 Bit Lolita's, Benz & MD
Back again with the February edition of Reflections. I was very happy with the last mix that was very well received from many people = I really hope to continue that. Again the premise is the same I try putting together a well progressed mix no matter what style of music it takes. I really try bringing as many genres as I can to the table that I feel are pure in sound with a definite focus on the house and progressive trance tip of things.
I started off this mix with two different songs. I used a small piece of music from the movie Brick that Nathan Johnson created for the character Emily and mixed it into the intro from Adam Byrds Time Machine. I used Emily's theme because it’s a very beautiful piece of music although short and flowed real well with Time Machines intro and made it more interesting as well.
Time Machine is a very nice piece of house music to start off with. It constantly adds more to itself very well as the song goes on. Smooth and groovy is the best way to describe this track :music
I’m a huge fan of 16 Bit Lolita's and imp very glad to have gotten this tune just about a day or two before I put the mix together. Nick Warren has been playing this all over along with many other of my favorite dj's. Naturally it’s got a lot of energy and that calm yet energetic sound that only 16BL's can bring. The track is titled Neptune and I really think it gets the mix going.
Following is a remix from Matt Rowan and Jaytech of AFK's Lush. Almost similar in vein to Neptune and it flows right into it but it has a much tougher feel to it. Matt and Jaytech constantly pump out good original songs and remixes so I urge everyone to look into their work.
Up next is one of my favorite tracks at the moment. I heard Sasha use this in his recent Creamfields and was in awe. Its titled What Dreams May Come and it’s the Club Mix from Moonbeam. I’m very excited that I’ll be able to use this live this month and can’t wait to see reactions. Something about this track really grabs my attention it goes back and forth from being calm to exciting in a split second. The melody is also to die for and has a very unique sound to it. Enjoy!
I have been waiting a looong time to finally use Santiago in a mix and I’m so excited I finally found a suitable mix to put it in. I really held back on using this in just any mix I really wanted it to flow just perfect when I decided to use this. It’s not very often a Bedrock tune comes out so you always want to take special care of its placing. If you know Bedrock you should expect that amazing sound that will always get people dancing. John and Nick definitely struck another hit with this track and its perfect combination of house, electro and trance.
Micah is another one of my current favorite artists who I’m always excited to hear from. This remix for Introvert Things Left Unsaid is quite the song. Its funky, melodic and overall has a great uplifting feel to it. It's definitely the kind of song you want to follow Santiago with. Although a nice track in itself I added samples from Dirty South’s Remix of Cicada Things You Say for fun and it came together real well.
At this point I decided to get a little bit more on the progressive trance side of things. One of my favorite songs from James Holden was always Come To Me. The lyrics were haunting and the song very moody. The original is an amazing production but Mat Zo took it and really did a number on it. Adding an uplifting feeling with a thick baseline really made this into something different. You'll love it or hate it depending on your thoughts on the original. I love it
As things start to get a bit more "trancey" I decided to use a song that I really enjoy that showcases what I think most melodic trance songs are missing. It has the feeling of a house song but the melodic touch of a trance song. The song is Joshua Cunningham's Sun and Snow. When I first heard this track it quickly reminded me of something I would've heard Oakenfold play back in 99 at Creamfields. Has summer track written all over it and I really hope you feel the same.
Since the mix began to calm down I wanted to keep that feeling but slowly add energy to build up to the final 3 songs. Benz and MD are no stranger if you love progressive house/trance. Always churning out great tunes with a lot of depth to them. This time on remix duties is Gabriel Batz a great talent who adds a lot of energy and a little electro type touch to an already beautiful track.
One half of Cosmic Gate Nic Chagall has been making a nice name for himself as a solo artist. A very electro track from Nic but not thin at all thanks to the vocals. Very emotional lyrics and a great kick along with those electro pads all over really make this a sure main stay at a lot of clubs and events for a while to come.
The original version of First Time was very moody and dark in tone. Funabashi adds a more peak hour type feel to this track with his remix. I decided to throw in the original breakdown because I thought it was unique and it added to that dark tone I really enjoyed the first time around. I will eventually completely edit and add vocals from the original but for now a minor edit 
As usual I wanted to close with something different and I used a beautiful piece of music from Skye. Everything in this song is perfect to me and it closes everything off very well.
