Minaya-Reflections January 07..M83, Spooky, Jaytech, Dousk..
So this is the first in a long series of new mixes Im starting called Reflections. It will take over the State of Muzik series and hopefully take on a more mature sound. Im trying hard to stay away from that usual epic sounding trance and stick to a more progressive feel. I'm also becoming more comfortable with Ableton and will start taking advantage of acapella's, samples and re-editing songs on the spot so the mixes are more creative as well.
Overall I think everyone will really enjoy it though. Also as time goes ill add more to the mixes I still want to add small videos explaining my mix opposed to all of this writing and more small things so just give it time.
The first two tracks are beautiful ambient tracks that flow into each other quite well and once Dive takes off in comes the first dance track of the mix = )
I've been a huge fan of Nick Warren for some time and Jimmy Van M I've been quite fond of as of late. They came together and really made a great track that feels like a rock/house hybrid with a real nice dirty sound to it.
Following is one of my favorite tracks right now. Dousk's Caribou has a great uplifting sound to it. I first heard this in a Jody Wisternoff mix and couldnt wait to use it. It really gets things going in this mix.
After that is a remix from the man himself Jody Wisternoff. He really added his own touch to this track with great energy but also made it very calm and cool at the same time. It just grooves the entire way through and the breakdown is great. See if you can hear what classic video game sound is added during the breakdown its funny but very cool at the same time.
Next track up is a pure crowd pleaser. Blake Jarrell constantly making fresh new material decided to try his take on a piece from one of Dane Cook's standups. The "lyrics" you could say are dead on and should make you laugh and right after its over you'll be dancing again. This worked great at Connected 3 so hopefully anyone that was there remembers this well. I also decided to sample Pryda's Remember while mixing the two tracks because I felt it just worked well and it was a spur of the moment thing.
Jaytech is great and his remix for Aha is nothing short of funky. Again more great melodic feel with energy to boot its a style all its own which is what I tried to maintain the whole mix a constant groove and mellow feel at the same time.
Noel Sanger is just an amazing producer and I'm happy to play anything of his I could find. This remix is no exception a beautiful guitar comes in at the breakdown and really turns things around. = )
Its been awhile since I've had an Andy Moor song in a mix and Im glad I got one in this time. Allot of people dont like his work but I really enjoy his driving bass line and overall feel of his tracks. This one gets me jumping around and puts a smile on my face.
Another Loud Thought is a killer track. Great hybrid of trance and electro and I cant wait to use this live. Just listen and Im sure you'll like it <3
Every time I get a Matt Rowan track Im very excited and Trust the Groove is such an amazing track. Really a ton of different styles crammed into one beautiful song. Ill probably be opening allot of my live sets with this track.
I had to pick something that Sashay played in his recent Krista set. A beautiful piece of music here and a great acapella that I had to recreate for fun. I hope it came out well please let me know = ) Expect this track in my next Self Painting mix <3
To end the mix I picked one of my favorite songs and just a great piece of alternative rock from Travis. Office fans will know this from when Jim and Pam had what Jim called their "first date" haha. Others well simply know it from being Travis fans.
I hope you enjoy the first of many new mixes. My ultimate goal is to create a constant groove that house has but those epic peak hour song feeling you find in trance. (Link is in the title!)
