hi all

ive curious and im sure somebody on here can help me out, it says on the cd-r 700mb or 80min....

but when im importing music into my burn window on nero, the bar at the bottom has a line at 70 min and 80 min, you can go rite upto the 80 min mark and burn it fine, but the file size is more than 700mb...

so what can you actually burn onto disks, ive heard of over buring is that not good for audio players though, is that what im doing by going up to the 80min marker

please advise...

some years ago most cdrs were 74min, now they're all 80min. there's 90min and 99min ones available too though. you can burn as many minutes as it says on the disc (some drives don't burn 90 or 99min cdrs well though, i've heard).

Nero does this because you can also burn audio to a DVD which contains alot more time and data space. It's also a great tool for marking and editing a mix to length standards. This way, if you have a three-hour mix (for example) you have a reference on where to divide.

that's because Audio and Data (files) are written differently on the CD.

when you burn your CD as data cd, the cd writer burns a pack of data followed by a small block of error correction which takes more space on the CD (but you can't use this space)
When burning audio data this error correction block is not written, that's why it's possible to burn file larger then 700MB as Audio.
