Dude, the list is as long as your arm and the answers from people will vary.

I would suggest downloading a sequencer or buying a copy of Computer Music Magazine as they have lots of freeware on their DVD that comes with it for free. Just about anything you need to get started making music is covered. You can even go to the computer music website and download it there.

Don't spend money on this yet, as it may not be fore you but if you have any questions feel free to ask.
