Unhappy reason users, HELP!?

hey guys, i was hoping someone can help me with this. i use reason and reason alone and ive always ha dthis problem. the problem is the bass kick lowers the level of other sounds when it is played, such as a clap or hihat ect. how do i get around this problam cuz i start spending so much time just trying to eq every thing right that i dont get anything done. its seriously driving me nuts.

if this help: this is the way i set up my rack
i start with my mixer etc. then for every intsrument (then effects if any)then i add equalizer, stereo imager, compressor, and maximizer in that order.

i actaully just wrote a song and it sounds good on diffrent stereos except the basses cut out the highs a bit.

thats about it, i hope someone can help we with this cuz with out it im stuck. thanks

That sounds like the characteristics of clipping, or a limiter. I can't see any reason why this should be happening unless you're overdriving the overall mix. Try lowering every channel down a few db on your mixer and see if that clears it up.

is thgis the right way to set up a rack though, i was thinking that it might be the route of my problem

The clip LED won't go on when you have the mastering suite in place because of the limiter. I STRONGLY recommend against using the mastering suite until you're happy with your mixdown. Try bypassing it and see if the Clip LED comes on.

Otherwise, if you HAVE to use the mastering suite, have a look at the maximiser. Is the meter dropping down a lot on every kick?

If so, check the output meter on your mixer. If they're sitting at maximum throughout your song then there's the problem right there. If the mix is floating at a good level then perhaps another effect in the mastering suite is adding too much gain (ie eq, stereo imager)?

Input of the maximizer is probably too loud.
I suggest you don't use stereo imaging or compressors on your mixdown. It usually does more harm than good.
Some light EQ and a maximizer is enough.
Less is more!

try to keep your overal mix around -3dB max without any compression on the master channel, this gives the mastering process some space to manouvre to the best possible results .

try doubling up your bass kick with the same sound or a different one.
the same sound will make it sound fuller and real thick
