DJing For Dummies...

I was at Barnes & Nobles last night looking for a book on Ableton Live and I came across this one... DJING FOR DUMMIES. I skimmed through it and what I read was really good. A lot of good tips in there and A lot of the questions many of you keep on PMing me are answered there. I agree with a lot of what it was said, specially the NETWORKING.

If you're an up and coming DJ, you should definitely give this book a read.

Oh & BTW, I think a fellow TA wrote it.

Yeah, that book was next to it, but I didn't have time to skim through it.

I think it was. I PM'd him asking him that, so hopefully he'll answer.

How to DJ right is a really good book, you could very well learn basic mixing techniques from the descriptions in that book.

Maybe some of the people here will have their gear setup pictures in this book. I remember Recess was asking for pictures and stuff last year.

The book "How To DJ Right" is being updated too.

Looking forward to that. It was a very great book to read as a beginner dj and even while you are becoming more experienced it helps with the little things.

Hey all,

I bought a copy of "DJing for Dummies" the day it came out. It's a really good book, funny and informative at the same time. It's much smarter than a typical "Dummies" book and there's something for everyone in it, from a beginner to a professional DJ.

I do hope no one has seen through my cunning plan. I've apent years coming up with Aliases like nannon, nerdgrl416 and DJWoody, posting messages in here as though I was a different person - all for the moment when I released the book, so I could stoke my own fire.

On a serious note - thanks so much to all of you for what you've been writing about the book. It was a hellava way to wake up this morning, seeing all those messages! I'm really pleased you like the content, and the writing style, and I hope that if there's anything else I can help with, you're happy to get in touch and ask.

As to the pictures thing, I'm afraid the publishers turned down that idea. They wanted to keep images down to a bare minimum, as I was submitting so much information - so it ended up being mostly manufacturers shots, or close ups that I took of needles/tone-arms etc. Sorry for wasting people's time.

Oh - and don't look at page 239. Pretend it's not there please. Or at least, accept that I know what a turntable looks like, even if the graphics people who drew that figure don't...

(I'm posting a list of changes that need made on my site, so folks who think that I think Timo Maas is spelt Timo Mass will know I know it's wrong).

As to the How to DJ Properly book, I can't comment on it.
