Yes, that "Zabiela-style" scratching involves looping the scratch sample. Also, you can tell it's a loop because the two yellow lights in the top corner of the CDJ (the loop in/out adjust) are flashing.

Where can you find scratch samples or do you have to make your own?

By some battle records and rip them, then scratch + loop that scratch.

You can get scratch sounds on Beatport. Look in their DJ Tools section and buy some that you like.

The Zabiela CDJ scratch works like this:

You have to loop your sample on the CDJ to make a constant sound. This loop needs to be close in time to the track you will be scratching over.

Next you must run your scratch loop through your EFX 500 or 1000. Have the EFX set to Transform. 1/4 and 1/2 are the most common and useful timesettings (I'm pretty sure JZ has it on 1/4 in that clip), but experiment and find what works right for you.

IMPORTANT: your EFX unit *MUST* be in time with the song over which you are scratching! If you leave it's BPM counter to "auto" it will come up with some weird time setting based on your scratch loop, and it will sound weird and out of time. Before you scratch, run your main track through the EFX unit until it correctly count's the tempo. Then just press the "tap" button once (ONLY once) and it will lock onto that time setting, and no longer automatically adjust itself. Now you can scratch.

cool but I dont have an fx processor.

I do have a djm-400. I think my mixer locks the bpm automatically. But it doesnt have transform and Im sure it wouldnt be the same.

What exactly does the tap button do on the djm-400?

1/4 is indeed the correct setting. I have the sample that Zabs uses along with a ton of others that he uses, and I'd be inclined to say it's the same exact pack as his. It's only on CD now, I snagged it when someone upped it to Pioneer's forums. I can rip it for you if you'd like.

As stated before, the source of the classic Wahh sound is "Un salle histoire" by B-Side.

But is found on any battle pack worth it's salt.

Cheers
