Do you play your own productions in sets?

I notice a lot of people i speak to say that they do not play the music they make to a live audience.

whenever i dj in front of a crowd i like to utilise my own tracks. some need some eq tweeking so they sit better in the mix, but they seam to work great. and people always love to know they are hearing a track that is straight out the home studio..

im just wondering how many others are happy enough with their sound to allow it into a dj set? and how long has it taken for you to get yourself sounding how you wanna sound?

im seriously considering buying a laptop so i can tweek tracks on the fly, utilising a synth/controller to improvise melodies. and turn from a musician/dj to a live musician who plays other peoples tracks now and then

I didn't play my own tracks before in my sets but recently I've been doing that and the response has been really good

it's a very good way to find out what needs to be done to my tracks, I almost always hear improvements I can make in mixing that I haven't heard at home.

It really depends on the set. Ideally, I use Ableton live in one channel (for original productions played live) and cd decks (for dj mixing). Sometimes the event calls for me to just play a dj set. For this I definitely throw in my own tracks if the set calls for it. A personal pet peeve of mine is when a producer drops his own tracks into a set and the tracks don't move along with the set itself. I try to stay clear of it.

Your answer:
If my set allows for it, then I most definitely try to put my tracks in.

My tracks don't fit in my sets stylewise because what I produce and what I spin are completely different.

well if it's possible stylewise etc...I'll put some of my tracks in...anyway...each friday I bring all my gear to the club here...which allows me to improvise and remix live...and it's a damn good experience for me and my audience.

even when I have to play more commercial stuff...well check Akon ft. Eminem - Smack That (BOOsTER's Eminem is a pussy Edit) you'll find it in the producers promotion lol

It must suck having such limited musical taste.

I sometimes like to make ambient breakbeat type tracks. But I'm not at all interested in playing these in a crowd. When I build a set, I want it to be energetic and danceable. That doesn't mean that the ambient breakbeat songs suck, it just means that I didn't make them for a dancefloor...
