Sound question for Macbook/Macbook Pro users...

So I'm thinking about finally making the awitch (back) to Apple after over 10 years on the Windows side of things. I'm having a hard time finding the specs on the sound card that comes with the latest line of laptops. Can someone who knows tell me the inputs you get (ie: line in). Is the included card comprable to the latest cards in non-Apples? Also, I use Audacity to record my mixes on my Dell lappy. What do you Mac users use?

Thanks,

MTM

hi dude

I have a macbook pro 2.33 core2duo.

I have to say that the line in/out are pretty damm awfull mate so I use a digidesign MBox 2 with pro tools and also I have a fasttrack pro from m-audio which I use for my ableton work for multiple outs.

both sound very nice indeeed and I have no troubles whatsoever.

I found that when using the line out I got quite a large amount of feedback especially when the dual screen out was connected.

all is good now thou, and i would defo reccomend a MBP C2D

hope this helps mate

The Macs have a Phono Line In built in, and I use Audio Hijack Pro to record my sets, its a million times better than Audacity.

um not so much. the mac laptops will have a 1/8th inch line in and 1/8 inch line out. they DO NOT have a phono input, thats just plain silly.

if you are serious at all about the sound quality of your recordings, you will need an external (firewire is best) interface. take a look at the m-audio line. i have a firewire 410 for my G4 powerbook.

I also use Audio Hijack Pro on my MacBook. Quite honestly, it does it's job. Don't expect any studio quality sound, but it's decent. I use it to record my sets every weekend and it works fine. One thing, the input is very sensative. I'm talking about EXTREMELY Sensative. Also, if you want true digital quality, you'll have to buy a TOSLINK cable. Unforutanetly, I don't know of any mixers that offer Toslink outputs. Unless off course, there's a TOSLINK to RCA DIGITAL cable/adaptor.

This is the TOSLINK cable for Apple products.

Yeah, I mean I'm not looking for studio quality sound or anything. Just something basic that converts to 320 or WAV.

Also, wouldn't using a Toslink to RCA converter degrade the pure digital signal from the Toslink when it's routed through an 1/8 in RCA adapter?

Thanks for the help.
