its a bit of a vague question really dude.

all these things depend of what exactly you are trying to produce.

There are so many different sounds available from so many synths these days that my advice would be to get out there and listen to as many as possible and see which are producing sounds that take your fancy.

Synths are so complex too these days with many many different ways to get sounds that you like that trial and error is what you need to do.

I use the ReFx nexus and vanguard for a few things which I find quite good but alot of my stuff comes from Native software like reaktor, massive & also Albino is great for pads.

just listen to as many as you can mate and delve in the deep end.

hope this helps.

ohhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!! remember some decent dynamics along the way too. Things like TC Native, Sonalskis and waves are all great for the jobs and will help you get the most from sounds even more

go for it dude

out of the two you mentioned i would definitely go for the v-station. it has a nice sound to it (much better than vanguard imo), is extremely simple to program, and its wonderful for learning subtractive synthesis. other than that, listen to the other guys and try to learn about some stuff before you spend a rediculous amount of money on products that you dont know how to use.
