I believe that the gov let it happen. That is all. But still the apartment bombings, etc are worse. |
I wont bother arguing you on the apartment buildings, because I am sure there's government involvement, but tell me one thing - if you think Putin's bad - name me a Russian politician who you think would do a better job for Russia, from the top of your head. And you know what, if you're honest, you won't be able to come up with a good choice. Putin's no angel, but he has done better as a leader of Russia than most of his predecessors on all fronts - economic, political, social, somewhat demographical. 300 innocent people dead in the bombings is a terrible but low price to pay for maintaining Russian integrity and stability in Putin's view. Did 9/11 attacks achieve the same for USA? What's a human life worth in Russia nowadays anyway - but its worth more than it was in Yeltsin's years, believe me. Things will get better, there's democracy in Russia, there are nearly a dozen different political parties there, all are strong candidates to do well in upcoming elections based on different turns of events. Putin is not grooming a successor like an authoritarian leader usually would. He doesnt belong to any party either ;-)
Let things develop, stop criticising Russia for talking with Hamas - quite frankly, Russia is doing more for Palestinian peace by trying to talk peace while Israel and USA refuses to talk to democratically-elected Hamas because Israeli feelings are hurt, which will not bring peace. Actually, if right now peace will be achieved through Hamas, it will be significantly better than through anti-Hamas Palestinian groups that will only feed Hamas hate. If Hamas is swayed to peace, there will be no significant groups left to continue resistance. In Palestinian eyes Hamas is the group that has the real power to bring change to its people. This way its possible to finally acknowledge legality of Hamas and achieve a compromise to bring peace and stability to Middle East, which most Western governments refuse to do.
