i personally would stay away from cd players like that. if your serious about it go that extra mile and get the pioneer cdjs.

the mixer you would get fed up with after a few months and will no doubt upgrade.

I'm not sure what the prices are in Canada, but if you have the money, I'd get 2 Pioneer CDJ-200s and a Pioneer DJM-400. It is a basic setup, but are top-notch. A few members on here have that setup. Although they aren't the most advanced pieces of gear, they will serve you well, and most likely fulfill your needs.

denon don't make the greatest tabletop players but their dual units have been used in clubs for years

i know there was one or two models that were buggy, can't remember which though

that mixer for 100 bucks will due you fine for starting out until it either craps out or you simply outgrow it

i think freak or nem might be able to shed some light on which was the buggy denon dual deck(s)

The DN-2400F was the worst one in my experience... it wouldn't play CD-Rs at all (for some of the others it would play them if they were burnt at 2x speed but no faster - when most modern CD writers won't even write that slowly).

The main problem with rackmount decks like that is that they normally have a +/-12% or +/-16% pitch range in a 45mm slider, meaning even moving it as accurately as in 0.1% increments was bloody difficult (none of them would actually adjust any more accurately than that even if you could move the slider that small an amount and many of them would only adjust in 0.2% increments anyway), basically making mixing bloody hard unless you're quite experienced.

I actually still use a pair of DN-1000Fs (one of the first ever DJ CD players, if not the first) on my radio show... it's quite impressive that the things are still going seeing that they must be at least 10 years old, probably nearer to 15:

the studio technology's not the most up to date but I do take a pair of CDJ800s along to use for the bulk of my show - the Denons have play buttons wired into the main desk so it's more convenient for starting tracks while you're talking on air (at the start of the show, for special features etc)... they're a pain to mix with, on the occasions that I have to, although it is just about doable - I definitely wouldn't recommend it to a beginner!

I had a mixer like that - mine was a DM1001. Exactly the same but with even less features (no kill switches).

Bad things:
1) The LED level indicators served no purpose, only the first one or two LED's ever lit up
2) The EQ's aren't up to much
3) The volume in the headphones bore no resemblance to what came out the speakers. This when added to point 1 above meant it was pretty much impossible to get the gains right when mixing
4) Poor sound quality (though to be fair you won't realise this until you eventually buy a higher end mixer & connect it to the same set up)

Good things:
1) It never broke. I bought mine 2nd hand & eventually sold to a friend of a friend. Last I heard it's still going strong
2) You can change the xfader if it does ever break, something not every cheap mixer allows
3) The headphone cue control is great. Twist the knob left or right to hear each channel & turn it to 12 o clock to hear both channels at once. I used a couple of cheap mixers at friends houses & they had horrible independant cue methods. This Numark has pretty much an identical method to my Pio DJM909
4) No FX to get in the way if you are just learning the ropes. I honestly feel that for a beginner FX will get in the way of learning phrasing & beatmatching.

Would I buy one? Well you could certainly do much worse for your first mixer, it's very cheap with good build quality however it has it's limitations & you'll eventually outgrow it. Compared with the cheap mixers my friends had at the time I liked the Numark much more. I have fond memories of mine

Okay. This was at a time Denon's Top Of The Line CD Player. They still can be found today being used.

Price point is too much under today's standards (I wouldn't go higher than $200.00)

Performance wise, a lot of good reviews from that player. If you mix, and starting out it's fine. All you need is a pitch control to blend two songs together seemlessly.

Everything else isn't necessary. A person who can't mix Trance on a Dual CD Player needs to go practice more, and
stop blaming the tools.

Way over priced. That mixer (Like the player) is nearly (or is) 10 years old. $50.00 max for that mixer.

Again, mixing Trance on that mixer (Or any other at that) shouldn't be a problem.

It seems many (Not all) are brainwashed into thinking you need to spend $$$$ buying gear to mix properly. That's far from the truth.

Hope This Helps.

Very true unless you shop in HTFR. Last time I was in there they were still selling this rebranded as Ministry of Sound for around £110 ($215)
