You don't have to.. but I recommend sticking with Reason and when you feel comfortable with it move on to Cubase.

If you have a midi keyboard just try to loop simple drum and basslines while creating interesting synth sounds and melodies. I say this because if you have nice sounds and melodies etc in a track you can often get away with basic drums. Maybe if you're doing electro or something it might be the other way round though.

I don't have any reason songs but maybe someone could upload one for you as an example?

Have fun!

Have you had a look at the operation manual of reason?

Read about the REDRUM [drum pattern ]and the SUBTRACTOR [bassline].

It will teach you everything you need to know for now!

You want to know the basics of a trance drum pattern? Ok.

Bassdrum - simple 4/4 beat, which means 4 beats every bar, evenly spaced

Snare - ordinarily every other beat, two per bar

Basslines are usually pretty simple, a few notes with some white space.

You're going to want some vst softsynths because the ones that come packaged with reason aren't particularly good. Try z3ta, rapture, or FM8.

Put some random shit into a pianoroll, loop it and twist and turn every knob on your desired synth.. Then you'll learn something.. (Eventually, I will not say how long, as that might scare you a tiny bit)

I think the synths in Reason are MORE than ample for his needs. No need whatsoever to splash out more money on vsts until he has learnt the basics at least

He clearly said he is, and now he's looking for further help. Nothing wrong with that. We all had to start somewhere. If you can't cope with that, then go find someone else to annoy. Does every thread have to turn into a noob flame fest?

Yes, but there's no need to jump onto n00bs all the time. It happens all the time and it will keep happening. You know the old saying "If you have nothing nice to say, then don't say anything"?

That applies here. I know how you feel but people make mistakes. Give them a break.
