If enacted, such a policy would not affect Brandeis students because as a private institution outside of Boston, parking regulations work differently at Brandeis. While Boston University is a private institution, by virtue of its placement in the heart of the city, Boston city police assigns parking violations. But, Brandeis employs its own police and sets its own fines for parking violations. Members of the police force at Brandeis are solely employees of the school, not Waltham. The University is allowed to have its own police force on the condition that the officers complete the mandatory Massachusetts training, attend seminars and annually update their education.
Director of Public Safety Ed Callahan said the process of receiving and paying for parking tickets at Brandeis differs greatly from that in public institutions. At Brandeis, fines from parking tickets cannot affect one's license. Instead, ticketed parties have 30 days to respond to a ticket issued by the Brandeis police. If the fine goes unpaid, it is transferred to the student's account. "You can't imagine how many parents have called me refusing to believe their son or daughter has hundreds of dollars in parking tickets." |
but also from brandeis' web site:
| quote: | Section 3: FAILURE TO PAY FINES
Failure to pay fines within the thirty (30) calendar days' notice will result in additional fee, being added to the original violation. Non-payment of registrant's outstanding tickets will result in the immediate suspension of parking privileges and may result in complaints being issued against the registered owner and operator of the vehicle through the Student judicial Board, Human Resources Office or the Waltham District Court. Students with outstanding parking fines will have their outstanding balances automatically forwarded to the Student Account Office for collection. Any additional late charges will likewise be assessed. |
so idk
its a district court...idk what that means. but the first article i found makes it sound like i won't need to pay, that they can only do shit to students with violations
hmmmm
