Metal Gear Solid the movie... check this out...

Ive been a huge follower of not only the game, but im not ashamed to say im a big fan of the series.

Here is a excerpt I took from another site. Looks like my wait for a movie isn’t wont be for long…

Metal Gear Solid movie: the waiting begins
Posted Feb 10, 2007 at 02:58AM by Rio S. Listed in: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, News Tags: Hideo Kojima, Columbia, Sony, Sony Pictures, Hollywood Reporter, Yair Landau

Just a couple of days ago, Yair Landau announced that Sony Pictures is working on the Metal Gear Solid movie. Now to support that is a report from Hollywood Reporter about Columbia Pictures is currently negotiating getting the rights to MGS.

Don't get confused. Columbia Pictures is owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment. Anyway, Michael De Luca will be producing and Hideo Kojima himself will act as executive producer for the movie. The production team also includes Sony's Doug Belgrad and Sam Dickerman, Josh Bratman (who introduced the project to the company), and Rick Privman of JEA will also executive produce.

As the MGS series have spawned numerous merchandise (comic books, action figures, and guides), it's really no surprise that the movie would be most anticipated. The only thing we have to think about now is when will the movie be released.

And the bigger question... Who will play Solid Snake?

Since then we haven't gotten much details about the project, much less any word on who will be will be working on the movie. This has changed recently as Sony Pictures Entertainment vice chairman Yair Landau revealed that his studio is developing the project. After Landau delivered a keynote address in Las Vegas, Landau told this to GameSpot:

We're working with the Metal Gear guys.... It's a very cinematic game, it really lends itself to movie telling. But the question is, How do you translate Snake's experience into a full arc that conforms to what audiences expect on the large screen?

Landau also hinted that the "Metal Gear Solid" movie may just be the beginning. Landau hints that they're working on ideas for a possible EverQuest movie.

The "Metal Gear Solid" movie is currently the highest-profile game-film project in Hollywood. Top spot used to be held by the Peter Jackson-produced Halo adaptation, which is now unfortunately in development limbo.
Given how much we've been burned before by Uwe Boll (we're not saying he sucks, that's a matter of opinion, we believe it's safe to say though, that we all expected a lot more from his films), we urge caution. Let's see...what else has Sony Pictures Entertainment done before? As a distributor, they've had their hands in the Spider-Man franchise. What else? Oh, and as a production company they've done what? Hmn...oh yeah, "Spider-Man 2".

We're now asking you folks: Should we all be hopeful? Should we expect something that is miles away from the fan-made film we embedded above?

I am super interested in this.

It will be interesting to see how it comes out considering that the Metal Gear Solid sereies is largely influenced by the movie The Rock, down to the point that Hideo Kojima (the creator of the Metal Gear franchise) went out and got Harry Gregson-Williams to do the score of the series starting with MGS2. HGW is the composer of the theme music to the Rock and if you notice a lot of the cutscene in the MGS franchise, the music along with how the cuts are done are very similar to The Rock.

The MG series has been around since the early 90s, I know...but just talking about the influence The Rock had on the MGS series.

Ya, good point DaveT. I love all the cutscenes in the game and MGS4 is gearing up to be one badd ass game.

I met Hideo Kojima at that E3 thing a few years back. Interesting guy.

Harry Gregson-Williams is an awsome score composer, I like him just as much as Hans Zimmer.

I dont know who they are going to pick to play Solid Snake, but I think it would be best to give it to the guy who does Snakes voice.

Quite honestly I think he resembles Snake, seeing him live action I think would be a whole new persona for him, considering he can act as good as his voiceover work is.

Ive actually been holding out to buy a PS3, until Metal Gear hits the shelves. I actually didnt buy my playstation until the first Metal Gear Solid, and I got my PS2 when Metal Gear Solid 2 came out.

Guess its sorta a ritual for me maybe?

Personally I wouldnt mind them doing a full blown CGI movie if it came down to it. The games cut scenes are exciting as is if they touched them up a bit to look at par with say Advent Children I would much more enjoy them doing that

I think its possible to pull it off with real actors but I wouldnt want to see anything ruined if they end up casting someone as snake that doesnt pull it off well

Either way im glad its finally making its way to the big screen

IF...... they can properly pull this movie off, it'll be grand and hopefully not end up like a lame version of a Tom Clancy movie.

The game rules and while I definitely will pick up Guns of the Patriot, I have heard an interesting rumor of the PS3 being redesigned since Sony has developed an improved Cell Processor which
is smaller, more powerful, and cheaper to produce. Whether this will
pan out or not I think will come to light by fall.

Back to topic, Mark Whalberg could maybe pull off the look of snake but his voice is kinda soft. Maybe Hugh Jackman since his Wolverine
is so pimp.

edit: Harry Gregson Williams is great not only because his work is quality and the various mediums he works on, videogame and movies, but also works with Hybrid to produce songs like Just For Today..

David Hayter is mainly known for his writing. He wrote the screenplay to the X-Men movie and X2. (He played a cop in one little scene in X-Men, when the cops finally come into the Statue of Liberty near the end. He says one line I believe.)

His screenplay of the upcoming Watchmen movie is said to possibly be the most accurate comic to movie adaption ever. I'm REALLY looking forward to this movie because of his writing skills and the fact that it's being directed by Zack Snyder, the director of the kick-ass looking 300.

I think there's only one person fit enough to play Solid Snake:

What was kinda cool is I remember when I played the first MGS on PS. At the end of the game I remember Meryl asking Snake what his name was, which was David.

I thought that was a nice added touch to the end, considering my name is David also, and I missed the cutscene with his name at the beginning of the game...

Ya, I derno about old Chuck, I think he would make the movie super cheezy. I hope when they do make the movie its gonna be acurate to the game, and not some revamp on it like Michael Bay is doing with the Transformers this year..

But did they intentially create snake in David Hayter's image though? The similarities are kinda weird.

I cannot wait to see a Gigantic Bipedel Metal Gear Rex, taking up an entire theater screen sometime soon. Always my favorite Gears of all the MGS Series. I wonder what the new Metal Gear is gonna look like for the last one.

I dont understand Hideo's thinking though. Why end the Series? I would come out with a few more. Theres plenty more in the story to tell, expecially the story of Grey Fox.

For those of you who dont know what im taking about, heres an 11 minute video showcasing Snake.

Knowing how the Japanese industry works (I've worked in the videogame industry for almost 11 years now ) I would say Snake looking like Hayter is totally coincedence. Chances are Konami didn't even bother looking for localization talent (voice overs) until the game was well into development or maybe even complete. Ten years ago, it was more uncommon for any localization to have started before the Japanese version was even done. These days if they know it's gonna come out in both markets they'll work on localization alongside the game's development or start sometime during mid-development. A lot of itme it will get far along but localization will be put on hold for a bit while they push to get the Japanese version complete.

And you do realized that Hideo Kojima said the MGS2 would be the last one, right? Then MGS3 would be the last one. And now MGS4 will be the last one. I think as long as he comes up with new ideas and new storylines and thinks he can make an appealing game he will continue to do so. :P

I thought Hans Zimmer was the composer of the score to the Rock, no?
And I don't think MGS was largely influenced by the Rock. I just think they used some subtle elements to recreate a feeling that parallels the score for the opening scene.
