HappyHappy Nashville Predators moving to South-Western Ontario???

HOW DOES THE K-W PREDATORS SOUND??

quote:

If Research in Motion's Jim Balsillie plans to relocate the Nashville Predators now that he has agreed to purchase the NHL club for $220 million (U.S.), here are the likely landing places:

NORTH OF THE BORDER

Kitchener/Waterloo: Balsillie's hometown and where he set up his business. RIM just purchased a 27-acre parcel of land on the east side of nearby Cambridge. Could tap into growing population base of Golden Horseshoe and London to the west.

Hamilton: Balsillie once had exclusive rights to bring NHL team to Copps Coliseum. Could be a temporary home while new arena built in Waterloo area. Building is 22 years old and would need overhaul. May not have corporate base to support team. Tricky question of Leafs' territorial rights.

Winnipeg: New building but seats only 15,100. Strong support for AHL Moose since Jets moved to Phoenix in 1996. Rabid fan base. Commissioner Gary Bettman has said that in the NHL's new economy Winnipeg could probably support a team.

SOUTH OF THE BORDER

Kansas City: Anschutz Entertainment group was bidding for Preds with hopes of moving them to K.C. Primary tenant needed for new 18,500-seat Sprint Center.

Houston: The 10th-largest media market in the U.S. and NBA Rockets owner Les Alexander has expressed interest in owning an NHL team or having one as a tenant in his three-year-old building.

Las Vegas: Fastest-growing city in U.S. with no major-league sports franchise. First one in stands to make substantial profits.

Portland, Ore.: Always pops up as potential NHL site, considered underserved as a sports community.

Oklahoma City: Local business group is keen to bring NHL team in. Successfully hosted NBA's Hornets and may be more interested in franchise in that league.

The NHL would never allow another team this close to Buffalo and Toronto.

I agree with both the above comments. I can see it going to LV though. I"ve heard about that gold mine of a potential fanbase, from other sports analyst.

I could see fantastic support for a team on the East coast...Halifax would be a great location.

That part of Canada deserves an NHL franchise.

But does Halifax have the pop and the economy to support a franchise?

I'd say no

As for moving Predators to KW, not going to happen.

Ballsillie bought the fucking team people. Why would he want to move it to Halifax or Winnipeg when his corporate empire is in Waterloo? He should be able to move it anywhere he wants.

There is a rule in the NHL that does not allow a team to be located within another team's 80 km "corporate limit" or something like that. Depending on where he builds the arena (if he does intend to move the team to the KW area as I suspect personally), then technically he could do it. No doubt Buffalo and Toronto will whine like they always fucking do (both those teams prevented Hamilton from getting a team in 1992).

However, will the NHL allow another team in Ontario? I suspect Bettman and his cronies will put up a huge fight since they keep trying to expand the game to the US and CONTINUE TO FUCKING FAIL.

I'm so sick of the new NHL to be honest. The game has been gutted by too many teams, too many unskilled players, expansion to unsuitable markets and far too much American influence. I can barely stand to watch the so called regular season "rivalry" between Montreal and Toronto anymore because frankly, it's low scoring, penalty filled BORING hockey.

I mean really....penalties for shooting the puck over the glass by accident in the defensive zone? Goalies can't play the puck in the corner? Last time I checked they CARRY A STICK and should be able to play the puck anywhere they choose. And the calls that are made these days...my god. The NHL is not what it once was.

I fear for the day when Americans get ahold of soccer the way they have conquered and ruined hockey.

I am from halifax and i wouldnt reccomend putting an NHL team there

People do love hockey up there but the population of halifax is only like 450k approx. and there arent any other major cities close to it

plus not enough people actually have enough money to attend games on a regular basis

Plus they would have to build a stadium and everything, which the city doesnt have money for....

I think it would be nice to have another team in southern ontario due to the fact that i love hockey but could not afford to go to one leafs game this year!
