Changing project tempo in DJ sets in Ableton?

Edit: I mean changing speed, not pitch.

Probably an easy answer to this, but what's the best way to pitch up and down when DJ'ing in live?

The only way I've been able to do it is using the mouse on the project BPM, but that's clearly not the best manner... I'm sure it's a simple solution, but for the life of me, I can't figure it out.

Do you mean changing the pitch of the track or the tempo?

Tempo, sorry.

I just need to move around in speed the way I'd be able to on normal decks.

If you have a midi controller then assign the tempo to a slider on your controller and do it this way.

To assign master tempo, click on midi learn button, click on the tempo button top left and move whichever slider you want to use. When you click tempo button, you will also see at the bottom you can set the minimum and maximum range eg - min 125bpm max 135bpm. Now the slider will only stretch across this range...

Or did you mean something else entirely

Assigning a pitch range to a midi fader is a good way to beatmatch between ableton and decks as well.

If you've got a MIDI out on your mixer, and connected that to your PC, would Ableton detect the exact BPM through that?

No, as it would have no reference.... one of these however... would help.

Make sure to change the MIDI setting on the bottom to Relative (2 Comps.) if you're using a knob. I was playing out with my 3D at a friends party and I forgot to do that and when I was changing the tempo the bastard went to like 200bpm instead of a .5 increment
