Ecler and the mids...

So I was thinking about maybe upgrading from my DJM 400 to a Nuo 4 because I am using Torq and would love the midi controls. I've noticed people complaining about the mids on the Eclers and how they are overpowering and very touchy. I'd like ot get some more specific feedback from owners, particularly those who have used other non-Ecler mixers and, particularly, about the Nuo 4.

Thanks!

MTM

own a nuo4 now, previously owned DJM 300 and djm 500. The ecler may be slightly mid heavy, but it's by no means touchy. The ecler has full kill on the eq's which is a total godsend after working on the pioneer crap. You won't regret it. Get in touch with soundwerks and see if he can offer you a deal on ecler mixers. He sells them and can tell you that his customer service is second to none.

To clarify, 'mid-heavy' means the bandwidth of the mids control is wider than most other mixers.

I wonder what the actual cutoff points are? I may be able to do some tests with a spectrum analyzer. =)

when you kill the mid and lows on an ecler you can hardly hear anything comming from the highs, same goes for when you kill the high and mid.. almost all the sound comes from the mid eq which is really annoying which is why i only mixed with the lows and gains when i had my nuo 2

if you do a search, you'll find an MP3 I made of the EQ's, as well as the freq. cutoff specs of the EQ's...which are VERY similar to Pioneer or Rane...

I think it's just because the ecler has full kills on the EQ's that messes people up. They're used the very limited kills on pioneer mixers and it takes adjusting to realize that mid all the way down means absolutely no sound left coming from the mids. That's a big change from pioneer mixers where there's still a bunch of sound coming from the mids.

I got a nuo for christmas after using a gemini for years.

It did take some getting used to, and I'm still getting used to it to be truthful.

A couple of things I don't like are the fact that it does not have a very loud output even after doing the modifications in the instruction book. Secondly, I do have a problem with the mids.

I love the full kills (although it does take some getting used to).

The mids carry what seems like almost all the sound. I've found that, as opposed to other mixers, whenever I swap the highs I also have to turn down the mids of the outgoing track too. This is because what I am hoping to kill still has some carry through on the mids.

It is kind of hard to explain. The best way I could explain it is that if the mids and lows are playing with the hi's killed --then you bring in the hi's-- you notice a minimal difference (at least to me). It's only like it adds a slight atmosphere to the song sometimes.

One tip I can give is that you shouldn't really be fucking with the mids all that much in the first place.

Behold, my arse.

never owned nor played an Ecler mixer but the excessive width of the mids sound disappointing. it sounds kinda funny but Virtual DJ has that problem - mids effect the gain very much..
i just love my M.304

i own a nuo4.. got it about 8 months ago, and have absolutely no regrets. i also didn't like the mids in the beginning, but it doesn't bother me at all anymore. i just had to get used to it. now i wouldn't change it in anyway if i could. i just wish there was a vu meter for each channel.
