wtf is up with the fat guy?

he cried twice in episode 1.
in episode 2, he was crying again because "i said a curse word, i'm sorry." and then master chef gave him a Time Out.
I hope he doesn't die, i quite like the underdog. In the preview to open the show, they show him fainting, an ambulance, and a voice-over of "don't die on me now!"

Where do they get these n00bs? A waffle house chef? a retirement home cook? Why would someone give them a chance at $250k? Did they just pick people to round out the "we are an equal opportunity contest" ballot?
