Monster.ca Anyone??? is it any good or is it a pile of #$*&)
I am job prospecting and want to know if any of the online sites like monster.ca are any good.
Can anyone give me direction to other sites that might be good for job prospecting.
Side note: Hmmmm.....Can anyone in here ever claim they were hired when they used those sites?
I'll also take any referrels/names of corporate firms that are good to work for. I'm reaching for everything here.
Reason:
Wearing my heart on my sleeve...I see the signs that a job loss is here...and I'm not gonna sit and wait for it to kick me in the face. I got rent and other things just like everyone else...and I need my job/financial stability.
Any help from you guys would be great. You can email me any suggestions to [email protected]
Thanks guys,
Pat

well it wouldn't hurt to post your resume there
I got a couple of interviews from Monster
I find better listings on workopoliscampus

I've used it years ago successfully. Basically posted my resume up and was recruited for a trading position in a month or so. Look for jobs that you are interested in and utilize the keywords that employers use to find you. More keywords the better in terms of hits.
Good luck!

I agree! I started paying more attention to keywords in the positions I was interested in, and modified my resume accordingly

what you should do, is post your resume on there, cause it doesn't hurt.
I know people who have gotten replies to their resume and interviews.
The best thing you can do just use Monster to search for a job, then contact the company directly about the position.
Always better to have direct contact.

I was headhunted by a recruiter, so putting your information in with an HR staffing firm might be a good idea. English Rachel is a recruiter and may be able to point you in the right direction.
Never actively used monster or workopolis, but have scanned for listings. What industry are you in?

my friend got contacted by a company for an interview because he put his CV online in one of those job sites (monster/workpolis/jobboom/...), and everything sounded awesome over the phone interview.
It sounded too good to be true, so he googled up the name of the company and found out that its mingling with pyramidal schemes!

Thanks for pointing this out RJ but in all fairness my question is a little different. I am sourcing out all opportunities, opinions and experiences with online sites. I wanna hear what TA's have to say. And since that thread was directed more to the guy who posted it..I wanted this thread to refer to different things that might have been missed before.
Dr. Das I will see about contacting Rachel. I've never used a headhunter before. I was used to freelancing my services and had worked with referrels in the past...but now my role is very different and I am looking to work for someone rather than for myself. This kind of a move can be very tricky...bc some employers don't like to see that you were self employed before. It's a bit of a threat to them. The industry I am in is Real Estate and Construction. Contracts and Administration more specifically. I have carried the role of Office Manager and Administrator in the past and my education background consists of Legal and IT. There aren't a lot of places for a core MOS or MOUS (Microsoft Office User Specialist) graduates. Sadly some employers don't even know the MOS terminology. So I have to be flexible in what I'm searching out.
If anyone can get a hold of English Rachel's for me or email me her number, I would be incredibly grateful.
Thanks,
Patricia
