The first movie was fucking SHIT, but compared to the sequel it was a fucking masterpiece. The first one was like... average, on the brink of being unwatchable. Yes, unwatchable.
This one looks so fucking stupid. That's not Resident Evil at all. Making a movie out of Resident Evil is hard, and they're definitely proving that here.

+1 why couldnt they have just made it like the game

I do agree that RE movies will never be as good as RE games, but still, ignoring the fact that they're based on RE games, I think they're pretty solid pieces of action movies.

That being said, the advertising on this one has me interested as to why some of the things happening in the trailer are happening. So I guess it's pretty successful in that respect.
