everything I've heard says that the DJM-800 is WAY better than the 600 (which was a piece of shit). So it's actually a viable choice, for anyone who doesn't already own a Xone:92

HOWEVER, to beat an Allen & Heath ANYTHING requires a Urei. If you've got a Xone:92, KEEP IT. If you want the effects, get an external processor. A&H just has the best sound quality (due to clean, analog signal paths and good fucking engineering), such amazingly smooth pots, 4-band EQ (which I have trouble living without now that I'm used to it), etc. Literally everything about it is the best for any mixer of its type, and forcing effects to an external processor is better for overall sound quality because it maintains the cleanliness of signal paths and reduction in interference between components.

If you really are that unhappy with the A&H though, you could always donate it to a poor starving college student like me.

I wouldn't call the 600 a piece of shit. It just doesn't have big room quality like the 800 or any of the A&H mixers. Urei and Rane are probably even better. But, for ease of use coupled with quality in a club setting for less than top echelon dj's, I would go with the 800 if you already have the A&H. I, personally, don't like the A&H as much as I use to. There is just something about the feel of the knobs and dials that doesn't feel right to me.

the sound quality of the 600 was terrible, and it showed BADLY on big systems. The EQ was awful, and the BPM counter and effects box significantly altered the signal in unintended ways. At least going by my criteria, the 600 failed in its basic requirements and wasn't saved by the small measures of convenience it provided.

the few times I've used the 92 it's felt just like my 62, except with every change made that I've ever wanted. and to me it seems smooth as butter, only the Rane and Urei rotary mixers have been nicer in any way. I would never request any other mixer (unless a club had a Urei available), but again, that's my preference and opinion.

if you already have the 92, why bother getting an 800? At best it's a change from one equivalent piece of equipment to another (though you lose the legendary and awesome 4-band EQ). I'd just keep the 92 and buy an external effects box, if I were itching for effects that badly.

Like I said, the 600 isn't great in big system or big room environments. I have a 600 that I use in my home studio and it works great for what I need there. But, if I have a preference, I won't choose the 600 in a club. The irony is that most of the clubs that I have played use the 600. I know that is choosing the cheaper one and sacrificing a little quality. They try to make it up with good sound systems, but you can tell when you are playing. In my humble opinion, the only advantage of any A&H mixer is the filters that come with it. They are manual control as opposed to the djm series which has the filters built in. In terms of sound quality, I really didn't see much of a difference except for a slight better seperation of freq's with the A&H. But, to each his own.

First, to say the 600 is a "piece of shit" is just plain dumb. Simple statistics of sales and free market competition explain that one---it's the highest selling INSTALLED club mixer to date. The 600 compared to todays mixers is where it doesn't meet up, the 92 was made to take over the club market, which it did, and the 800 was made to catch Pioneer up and top Allen & Heath. Before the 92 came out, the 600 was by far the tops out in the market. If Urei is that much better......they would have been installed. They weren't and still aren't in 95% of the clubs in the world.

As for how it performs on big room sound, I was a part owner of a club here in Dallas, we had a EAW sound system installed, and I pulled the A&H 92 off the booth because the 600 sounded better on the sound system. I returned the 92 and exchanged it for an 800. The 800 blew the doors off the place. Every club sound system is different.

That being said, I have an 800, and it's phenomenal. The sound quality is top notch, my little shitty home system doesn't do it justice. The effects, which I will agree on the 600 were an issue, are 10 fold better and up to par with having a built in EFX-1000. The EQ's respond better than any mixer I've used to date. And the fact that their are digital inputs now are a huge plus. Compared to the 92, it is MUCH more user friendly. And the filter the A&H had that separated it from the rest has been added to the 800. And what is really sweet about it, you can now double up effects on the 800 and create some wicked sounds.

If you have the cash, go pick one up. It's already taken over the market again in club use. I won't trade it for anything. You won't regret it if you get one.

I had a chance to use it the night I played alongside Dave at the Tiesto show a year ago. Definitely much better than the 600.
