Movie REVIEW: Grindhouse
Went to see Grindhouse last night with my little brother. This 3 hour feature was an experience that i absolutely loved.
Grindhouse is basically 2 different movies set back to back. The plots of these movies were something else. The first one, Planet Terror, takes place in a Texan town that gets overrun by viral mutant zombies that rip people to shreds and eat them. I have never seen a movie this random, I dont mean plot twists, i mean just random shit happens that just makes you wanna say WTF. The blood and gore in this one was EXTREME, decapitations, mutilations, blood squirting, and of course, testicle cutting, and that is something you dont see in every movie.
The humor in this one was something else, i have never seen something so sardonic. You laugh as people get their arms ripped and their brains eaten. Things randomly happen, cars explode for no reason, babysitters attack a car with an axe and a shovel (they were not zombies), and missing reels add to the confusion. everybody is hiding our in a house, but the house is on fire, people just appear, you dont know who they are and how they got there but they're there. And did i mention the missing reels. This movies is a comedic visual spectacle, that makes you laugh, and say such things such as "ouch", "thats gotta hurt", "Gross", "What an Idiot", "WTF", and of course my favourite "i cant believe he shot himself in the head".
After Planet Terror finished it was time for the "Prevues"...the "Prevues" were an art in themselves, introducing coming attractions such as "werewolf women of the SS", "Don't", and "Thanksgiving".
After the "Prevues" were done, it was time for yet another feature, "Death Proof". This one is up and down, starts slow then BAM! shit happens, and then its slow again, and then BABAM! even crazier shit happens. A bit abour the plot, Kurt russel is Stuntman Mike who is quite litterally, F****ing nuts. He doesnt seem like it at first, but then comes that first "BAM" that i was talking about. The end of this one was just awesome, I would say that the car chase scene was definately one of the best if not the best that i have seen. The ending is filled with ass kicking goodness that i just dont want to spoil, but i laughed my ass off.
All in all I'd give Grindhouse a 9/10, both features were great, but "Death Proof" was a bit slow at some parts, and i found myself waiting for the action to start. The whole thing was a Directory masterpiece, and I intend to get the DVD as soon as it comes out. I will watch it again but im gonna smoke a fattie before I do, I recomend you do the same.
