i find this ironic.....

in light of the palestinian/israeli conflicts i was thinking about religion and war in general. Doesn't it seem like hella wars were faught over religion or over religious persecution??? Dont most religions preach tolerance, peace, and love?? What the hell is going on.

The other really odd thing i see in religions is the fact that each one states that it is the only religion that is 'right.' If this is so, how can ANY exist seeing that each is wrong and each is right all at the same time. Last summer I was a camp counselor for my church camp and the youth minister and I talked about it for a LONG time and never really figured it out.

Sorry if this makes your head hurt.

it's like people fighting over government ideology only X10.

people want power/control.
people have these total heartfelt beliefs that drive them.
people twist these beliefs in order to gain power/persecute others.

haha...this is because peoples definition of God varies.
All monotheistic religions believe they are worshipping the same God, but their definition of God's actions vary, so they obviously don't know anything about God,
unless one of them is right.

Now THAT's why people fight, and say that THEIR religion is right.

actually this topic has been discussed many, MANY times before.... and yes we all decided that God is the leading cause of death.

but yes, most wars and most war casualties have stemmed from a religious perspective... why do the aggressors fight? "in the name of god"..... so their god said it was a good idea to kill your god's people.... pfffft.

thats why i stay away from religion.... you ever notice how people that aren't following a religious practice don't die horrible deaths, or in mass quantities?

You're right, it is ironic. But remember that these types of wars have been going on for the longest time.

The Palestinians believe that Israel should be theirs, and that they were there first.

But then, the Israelis (Jews) believe that it was rightfully theirs because God told them that it was their Promised Land and that it should be theres....so what did they do? They took it over.

It's just a vivcious cycle that goes on and on and on and probably won't stop for a long time. These "peace talks" are crap, because nothing is ever done. One side wants what the other isn't willing to give, and then more fights break out.

Some of the terrorits, such as Hezbolah (spelling) WANT to keep fighting, or, so I've heard.

I don't think that peace will come in the Middle East for a long time to come, but we can always hope and pray.

I hope and pray (to no one in particular) that they will annihilate each other and rid the world of their close minded simian selves.

One of the best quotes I ever read came from my Philosophy textbook at college.

"For all the differences about religions that we think are small and insignificance, they are large enough for people to die and kill for."

I used to complain about how stupid people are for fighting and killing each other over "almost" the same belief. That quote made me realize that I would just belittle someone else's beliefs, in regards of their actions.

Do I think it is right? No?! Religious wars never have a victor, but casaulties. I can only hope for the best for those in the middle of conflict. But I stopped judging people's religions.

You got a point.
But the palestinian/israeli conflict is not a 'religious war'.
Yes religion is a factor of this war, and yes it was a basis of this war, but its not a religious war,
it IS a 'political war'....
anyway, no need to go any deeper into this subject.

It's amazing to see how religous wars throught history have pretty much changed the world...

I agree with you Tranex, it IS a politcal war...That's what most of the modern wars are, politcal wars, and the government sends innocent men to their deaths to gain a political objective that half the time they don't reach. It's sad...

That's true, this is a political war, but way is there seperation at all between us and the palestinians? Why are we not just the same ppl as the rest of the mid-east people? Religion. That's why they feel we are different...
Can't say I blame them (Actually I blame religion...), but if this is a political war (It's how evceryone sees it) I think it's very corrupt of leaders (Politicians or Terrorist or ANY leaders)
to convince their people that they are acting in the name of god, or for god...

Damo, that's really really heartless of you.
If you would have been where we are would you like to be anhiliated along with the opposers just so the reast of the world has less trouble on his shoulders?
