Quick question for those who have done a few gigs and HAVE used headphones that have a 55mm output diameter like the pioneer HDJ 1000.

How much diff does the size of the diameter make, cos my headphones at home are 30 mm diameter. does it help more when ur in an environment with larger speakers?

I'm assuming you mean the difference between headphones that cover your ear (circumaural?) opposed to those that don't.

While I haven't 'done a few gigs' per se, ones that fit around your ear will generally give you better isolation, allowing you to hear whatever is going through the cup better. Be aware that having open headphones negates the above.

Plus, circumaural phones may be more comfortable, but you may be used to the pair you have already.

The last 30mm sized headphones I tried were crappy Numark headphones.
Useless in noisy environnements, and painful after 10 minutes of wearing them.

well sennheiser hd 25's cant have a driver any bigger than 30mm. any bigger than 30mm and i think the sound is slow and too boomy.

it all depends on the make and model of your headphones. not the diameter of the driver inside.

just get some hd25's and you will be fine..

Depends on the headphones and the user tbh - I've never had a problem with my HD25s but I know people who don't like them for exactly that reason. I'm still yet to play out with my HDJ1000s (that'll probably only happen when the HD25s break!)

I had AKG cans, and in my opinion, its easier to beatmatch on them than my DJ1 Pro's.

generally open headphones are a bit more detailed in terms of sound...while the closed ones which cover all your ear give better isolation they also mostly bring more muddiness to the lower mids and higher bass...they get boomy...
