Hey car geeks...

Question for you.

Im looking at a Focus ZX3 S2 for $5500 right now. Its got 66k miles on it. Its "liquid grey." Apparently they only made 3000 of the S2's? I dont know the details about it but apparently they added a lot of cosmetic improvements along with a better suspension.

My question is, assuming the mechanic doesnt find anything terribly wrong with it, is it worth it? Im a little worried that its got 66k on it. I wanted to find something lower but I drove it and now I like it. This is my first time buying a car, and I have to admit, its freaking STRESSFUL.

Make sure you take it to a trusted family mechanic too.

The revised Focuses (Foci?) were decent cars. I can't remember any major technical faults. I think the first gen ones had a few issues which were quickly sorted out.

$5500 isn't bad for it either. Offer something like $4800 and try and end up somewhere in between. Also, check sites like www.autotrader.com to see what similar cars are selling for in your area, just to give you a frame of reference.

Good luck!

you are gonna have to do big maintanace on it preatty soon.. 75k miles... its about 1,000 dollars that its gonna be spent there.

iv driven a focus though, not very impressive. mazda has great small cars... the 3 and the protege... but im bias i guess cause i have one.

since 2003 and all iv done is change breaks because they were old (car is from 99) and got new tires. other than that, built like a tank.

Ive already done the baseload research. Assuming "good" condition, which it is, its about 6200 or so. Thats not including the S2 package but I dont think it added a lot onto the original MSRP to begin with.

+1

wherever you live you can get a toyota or honda for under 6k that will perform as well, and not die until 300k miles. it might be a few years older, but do NOT get a ford.

also, manuals will be cheaper to replace in the long run. autos last longer but cost more to replace (transmissions)

ang: DONT BUY IT! i know someone with a focus and it has PROBLEMS!!!!!! its a british designed car. thats all you need to know! total shite! oh and its a ford too! so double shite!

for 6k there are LOTS of cars out there. is 6k what you have right now? if so why dont you finance a 10k car? that would mean a SUPER low payment plus your car would be quite new. like 2003ish. your young and you NEED to start building that credit history NOW!

I have a 2003 Ford Focus SE.

I guess that could be "liquid grey", seems like it's trying hard to be silver, green, and blue at the same time.

I'm kind of going either way about this car. The handling is nice, it runs alright for right now, and it comes with a fantastic stock Blaupunkt system in it. Other than that, the gas mileage isn't too great (I think mine is around 22-25 for a 4 cylinder that isn't heavy at all), it's very hard on the front brakes due to the design, and I'm just not too sure how well it'll hold up once it starts getting above 65k.

meh.

But I got my 2003 with only 33,800 miles on it for under $9,000, so it was a good deal imo.
