I've listened to the goa mix and i love it, but is it me or is this a mix which to be fully appreciated would of had to have been listened to in the era it was made?

and could you run through the pioneering aspects of this mix and why it is considered oakie's greatest?

This mix obviously will never be fully appreciated unless you had been listening to it at the EXACT seconds he was mixing it.

the tracklist & diversity. using trance,goa and also classical and haunting vocal pieces as dead can dance

I don't see why. I only got into electronica post-2000 and now I'm enjoying tracks made in 1990 moreso than tracks made today.

The Goa mix is a classic.

Defiantly Oakenfold at one of his highest points. It is one of the only mixes I know that takes you on a nice trip.


And 90's trance > todays trance

Ah this mix is just great. In fact im gonna put this one right now.

There is also a cassette tape called something with "Paul Oakenfold Uplifting House & Trance" which I found an mp3 of on this board one time, which has the same vein of great music.

Yeah i've got that mix too, subtle - good stuff.

The goa mix never gets old for me. It basically has a residency in my car. I have driven off the road into a ditch during a snowstorm because I was so captivated by this mix. Maybe it's because I love blade runner so much as well

I think oakenfold's sets up until tranceport were extremely expressive. the tracklist of the goa mix is extremely sensitive i think, and the collage of film soundtrack/goa trance/progressive trance is just extremely well done.

i mean come on - he takes the vocals of a beautiful, soulful, early drum and bass track and then seamlessly juxtaposes it with classical peace by a polish composer from bram stoker's dracula....the best thing is it may as well be the same track, because oakenfold has read so well the emotional content of the tracks and decided to juxtapose them like that...

Truly innovative mix...no one else had really done anything else at the time nor have they since. It's mind-blowing how he blended different style as well as throwing in the movie dialog samples. The mix came at a time shortly after Oakenfold visited Goa and experienced a new kind of music pretty much unheard of back in England at the time. Shortly after returning he did this mix and it definitely at least greatly contributed to bringing a different sound to the electronic scene in Europe at the time...Hands down probably the best/most revolutionary mix of the 90s.

Oh.. and could someone explain what the second last track is on the Goa mix CD 2.. its labeled as 4Voice - Eternal Spirit (Northern Mix) and sounds like an early version of Kay Cee - Escape.

because Escape is a cover of Eternal Spirit.
