It is pretty ridiculous, but I can believe it. Salespeople are often clueless as managers or businessmen since they started out working on commission, knowing that the more they sold, the more money they'd take home. When they actually try to run a business or department, they can't grasp the concept of operational costs or even basic financial issues. They see themselves getting more inventory out the door, and have zero understanding of what it's costing them to do it, so they think they're doing great.
Could still be BS, I suppose, but it's not inconceivable.
