How to inspect second hand dj material ?

I want to buy 2 cdj-800 that a particular is selling !

But i don't have any friends who knows well the equipment that could come with me.

If i go alone, what are the little details i should take a look at ?

Exemple, i check the pitch, the effects, etc ?

Btw, the seller told me that it was only for personnal use and in a non-smoker environnement !

But i wish that this thread would help other people who are looking for equipment and aren't to sure on how to check the hardware they are buying !

Thanx

If you know how to mix, do some mixing with it. Make sure that the pitch slider, the platter-jog wheel, the cue and start buttons are all functional and not sticky or worn out. Check for scratches. Play a disc and make sure it reads the disc properly. Sometimes, after many years of use, the laser can wear out, so it's best to play some CDs to make sure this hasn't happened. Usually, you would need to ship it to Pioneer so they can realign the laser.

I had my seller sign a agreement that if i found major malfunction in a week i could return it. I know your thinking thats pointless since he could just say screw off and id have a hassle getting my money. But my assumption was chance is he wont want to deal with someone pissed for getting a broken product and trying to argue with a agreement, so if somethings broken and he knows then he'd probably not want to agree to any deal like that, and id have walked.

Very good point. I'd do the same thing.

And trying the equipment for 15-20min before buying is probably the best way to see if it's defective. Sometimes it could be the lense on the player that is defective and the only way is to try it for few minutes.
