Read This! Best Height For Turntables???

Alright people..

Having aqquired some Technics Mk3's recently, ive been using some old office decks to support them. Im not totally sure its a good height to mix with though, as i have to arch my back a lot, when im concentrating in the mix.

Also Ive been looking into the X30 DJ CONSOLE
which is available @ http://www.sefour.com. Its like over £300, which to me is a lot of mulaa, and its about 97cm in height. So im considering applying my joiniry skills + making something myself

Your thoughts????

There's no right and wrong height to have your turntables, everyone is a different height and is built differently so everyone has their own "ideal" mixing height. If you are getting a bad back then your turntables are definitely too low and you will injure yourself in time. You really ought to try and get a higher table, or like you said, build one.

Those DJ consoles are really a waste of time. As long as you have a table that is the right height for you, is solid enough to take two decks and a mixer, and is big enough then you're fine. There's no point paying £300 for a desk that's exactly the right width for a pair of Technics, you'd rather spend that on vinyl, right?

I too was thinking about buying one of these specialized consoles, but after seeing the price of the one i want $475
http://www.thurstwurks.com/furniture/dj_consoles.html
I think i will just go build one myself and spend the rest of the money on records I think i could do just as nice a job with some melamine and sheets of aluminum.

Yeah building one seems to be the right option.

Honestly, DJ consoles are a load of shit. Who needs 'em? Spend the money on vinyls, man!
I think the optimal height would have to be somewhere around your belly. Too low and you'd have to arch your back alot; too high and you'll end up looking like an order-taker behind a MacDonald's counter.

This is a very good question!
I've had these problems also!

Here's my answer: You should NEVER have to arch your back, 'cause if you do it'll hurt like hell, and plus the mixing will not be a very pleasant process.

If you find that you're arching your back a lot, SOMETHING'S WRONG!!!
Make yourself a higher platform. You can make some stuff out of wood (which is what I did, because I was arching my back too -- it's just a panel on two "legs": make some measurements, drill some holes, and cut out three pieces of wood). OR, buy a little shelf or something.

Dude, don't take this problem lightly, it's serious business and you NEED to get rid of that shitty set-up NOW, if you don't wanna ruin your health! Trust me on that one!!

You will find, incidentally, that once you have a higher platform, your mixing will become not only more enjoyable, but also better.

Oh, and 300-400 pounds, for a supporting table???!!
GIVE ME A BREAK!..
