acer laptop boot password + screen replacement
does anyone know if there's a default boot password for acer laptops?
i started fixing my sis' old laptop on which she had spilled coffee, i light coke and she'd broken the monitor with a transformer too.
i took all the screws and every single part out and washed everything with alcohol.
and now it boots up fine, which it didn't do before. but now it asks for some gay boot password. my sister has never set such a password on it so it must be the one it has originally been. i can't find any papers anywhere that have the password though. i've tried to search for a backdoor password but haven't found any. i've also tried all the obvious ones but none work. and it asks it immediately after powering it up, so i can't remove the password with any software. also the cmos battery is soldered in so i can't remove it to clear the cmos. and there's no jumper to clear it either.
would it help to short the battery so that it runs out? or aren't cmos batteries rechargeable?
so if anyone knows what i should try please tell me. the laptop is an acer travelmate 2350. it also has no warranty left so calling acer is kinda out of the question. and i'm sure if there were a backdoor password or something it comes with, they wouldn't tell me.
i've also thought about getting a new screen for it, but i've noticed that they're fucking expensive. so i had this idea. what if i bought a used 15" monitor somewhere and disassembled it and then use the monitor panel for my laptop. is there any chance of this working? or are normal lcd monitors so different that i'd never get it to work?
also i think i need to add that, no i will not buy a new laptop instead because that's not something i want to put my money into.
