Reccomend me some Chunes Similar to .....

Hey guys, not 100% sure where to put this, i guess it can start of here and mods can move it if they wish.

To cut a long story short im a complete sell out off a dj. I play cheesy dirty south style commercial house becasue thats what i get payed to do.

But.... i want to venture out more into different styles of music, but i seriously don't have the time to scour beatport for hours not really even knowing which genre to look through.

I have collected a few songs that i like, that i hope people can see and reccomend what else is similar and great in that genre, so i can at least narrow down what to look for.

You are sleeping - Pqm meets Luke Chable (vocal mix)
Luke Chable And Danny Bonnici - Ride (James Holden Remix)
16 Bit Lolitas - Sedna
Stan Kolev - Get There
Dave Seaman Pres Group Therapy Feat Nat Leonard - My Own Worst Enemy

I also really love Haji & emmanuel stuff, no matter how cheesy it is.

So any combination/ similarities to the above would be good.

To be honest i really love 95% of what clovis plays in his mixes. But i always feel like i'm following. Like in commercial house i know what to look for and can play stuff that i know will be big in 6 weeks - 2 months. With the style of music i mentioned above, i feel like i only hear about songs after theyve already been raped by a million djs.

Which djs should i follow tracklistings? Who leads the genre and preempts whats going to be played for the next month?

Thanks guys

I have a huge library of commercial house, spend haeps of time trying to find new stuff and at the end of the day ido very very well financially from it.

What i'm asking is for simply reccomendations, based on the few songs i mentioned, of similar songs in the same genre, so i can start to get a feel for that style of music, so then i can find my own tunes and know what producers/dj's etc are pushing the sound i like.

Becasue at the moment when i try to venture outside of commercial house, i'm seeing a stack of artists ive never heard of before and have no idea where to begin.

So for the love of god, instead of the witty remark telling me to find all my own music, you could of said So you like song xxx, you should check out these artists: ???

I'm going to say it a bit differently.

I find the most my most exciting experiences djing are when I get a new record that I found online, I haven't heard before, and spent hours looking for.

I know that doesn't help and your going to end up doing the same thing anyway, you just want a nudge in the right direction.

In any case, good luck.

I have too agree - Don't want to be rude to someone asking an honest question but your motivations are all wrong. You should play music because you love it, and play the music that you love. Saying "I get paid to play cheesey commercial crap and now I want to be more diverse" is fine but don't expect everyone else to do the hard work for you!

I think people like you give this industry a bad name.

Do it yourself, and only then will you understand the music your trying to play.

Youve got to be kidding me.

I get payed by a local bar to play 18ths and 21sts. I play cheesy commercial house because thats what they want to hear.

Half the people here have never even played outside of there bedrooms, neither have i with the music i realistically want to play. However i've been lucky enough to get payed to hone my skills on a club system, so when the day comes i get a gig playing something less commercial i won't have to second guess my beatmatching etc and can focus solely on my songs.

For you to say that i give this industry a bad name, simply becasue i play a genre that i don't love has got to be a joke. I don't know about you, but i have dropped a TON of cash on my dj set up , two cdj1000mk2s and a djm800, i'll take whatever work i can get to recoup that cash. If i don't play the cheesy gigs someone else will, i'd rather get the cash/ practice.

In my bedrooms a different story though, im trying to diversify & I simply posted thit thread because as i said in my second post,

"i'm seeing a stack of artists ive never heard of before and have no idea where to begin."

So instead of giving me shit, why don't u offer a step in the right direction. Of course im not just sitting here waiting for everyone to throw song names at me. Ive been spending a heaps of time trawling beatport, but its always good to get a few suggestion from other people.

Download a set by a DJ you like the style of.

Get the tracklist.

Get hold of the tunes that do it for you.

Thats what I do.

Exactly. or better still, go to record store and tell what sort of thing you like and ask for similar new stuff. The closer they get say "more like this please"

Or go on to beatport, check latest release in the genre you like, and listen. It doesn't take ages.

There is no quick fix, and don't think I'm knocking you for getting paid to play - Good for you! we all got to pay the bills but your first post comes across like "I can't be bothered to do my homework so I'll just ask..." and "I just want to know who's cool so I can copy them"

You'd be better off asking "what type of genre is this guys and can anyone tell me where to find more and what to look out for?"

by the way, it's prog/electro house and look out for artists such as Jaytech, 16b (omid), dousk, rowan blades
