LONDON (AP) -- The first regular season NFL game outside North America is shaping up as a hot ticket.

The first 40,000 tickets for the Oct. 28 game between the Miami Dolphins and New York Giants at the new Wembley Stadium sold in 90 minutes Wednesday.

"The speed in which such a large number of tickets were snapped up ... demonstrates the great excitement and appetite for the game in this country," said Alistair Kirkwood, managing director of NFL UK. "We know that the last few tickets available in this first batch will be gone very soon."

The first batch of tickets went to fans in Britain and the rest of Europe selected randomly from registered ticket requests.

Sales in the United States to Giants and Dolphins fans are expected to begin within a week. Further tickets will be released to fans in Britain next month.

About 10,000 fans are expected to travel from the United States, a fraction of the anticipated sellout crowd of 90,000.

Prices range from about US$90 (euro66.50) to US$180 (euro133), using a pricing structure similar to this weekend's FA Cup final between Manchester United and Chelsea.

American Football will never replace England's love of football just the same as "soccer" will never become the main sport in North America. Trust me, most British turn their nose at the NFL. Personally, I prefer the NFL over rugby and baseball over cricket, but there is no doubt as to which sports are the most popular worldwide.

I usually am not the type to say stuff like this but i still kinda sorta want to .... lolz

I TOLD YOU SO

hehehe

The idea behind NFL having games overseas is not really to turn the public away from their sport and bring them over to NFL. The idea is to cater to the needs of the fans that are already there. And by doin g that if they make new fans, even better. I am pretty sure NFL spent alot of time and money trying to find out how they will do in Europe and by looks of it i think they will do just fine.

cheers to NFL

The reason why this event has sold out in england is because the game is being held in the national soccer stadium. The stadium was demolished in 2000 and has been totally rebuilt and redesigned and only just reopened. As this game is one of the first few scheduled, more and less people have bought tickets to just see the stadium and not the game. We couldnt give a 2 shits about american football - thats not saying the game is any good.

^^^ that does not make any sense whatsoever

why would you pay almost a 100 bucks to go see the stadium during the game you do not even like? i mean you could spend the the money on the soccer game and still see the stadium right?

having seen the 95 FA CUP Final at the old Wembley (fuck you Man United hahaha!), I know that is/was more than just a "stadium". Wembley was hallowed ground and definitely a tourist attraction. The new Wembley is the same deal and people from all over Britain are likely to go see the stadium as soon as they can.

I'm not saying that's a reason for all the tickets being sold but it's definitely a factor. The NFL Europe team in London folded nearly a decade ago and NFL tv ratings in Britain remain pitiful. Seriously, this is just a one time thing.
