anybody have any experience with Toyo Proxes FZ4's? i found a pair for $70USD and am contemplating purchasing them. they have less than 3000 miles on them according to the owner. they arent currently mounted (a good thing so that they arent sitting on a non moving car) and they appear to be in good good condition.

btw i really only need 1 because i got a flat that ripped the sidewall. my car is quite new (06 subie 1yr old at the end of this month) so really dont need more but the stock tires arent that great so i figure ill get 2 good rears.

Generally you dont want to mix and match. They have different handling features and ride qualities. If you aren't picky on tires and not looking for performance, I'd go for it.

thats the exact problem...i am a handling guy (the tires on there arent that great...they are a little soft for my taste) but im not in a position right now to replace all of them...and for $70 for a temporary fix while i pay some debts off and what not i figured its a good deal.

I've got a related question. I heard a clicking sound and thought it was a pebble stuck in my tire, turned out to be a screw. I was going to pull it out but thought all the air might come out. What should I do? leave it in, take it to a tire shop, or is there something at an auto store for this?

u can have them patch it via an inside patch as long as the screw isn't close to the sidewall...yes do not pull it out, just go to a tire shop and tell them u want an inside patch...they can patch it from the outside but those aren't as safe for obvious reasons, but I've never had one fail on me yet...I've had a bunch of screws in my tires lately from shitty south Florida road construction on every road around.

there is something at an auto store for this but just take it in. its a BITCH to fix.

that seems kinda high for $100 when new tires...I would check them out and make sure the tread is like new or just replace 2 with new ones from your trusted tire shop...3000 is probably more like 6-9000 in actuality. I'd find out why he replaced them.

yeah thats my worry. the tread from the pics doenst look very low mileage like the person says. and on the price thats a good price. i would be spending ~$110USD on each tire if i was getting something i would prefer.

usually when you factor in cost of mounting, its not worth it. most tire shop will charge a lot because they want you to buy their tires.

yeah ive been that route too. they always rip ya for mount and balance but i dont have to dismount them so not as bad really. its like $12 each total.

but yeah the tread looks more worn then he says it is. they look like they are from an RWD car and he did some burnouts in these. cause if they truely are less than 3k miles the tread is worn at like 6k or so.

Leave the screw in, and have a shop take care of it. Most likely, they'll just have to remove the screw, and plug 'n patch the tire.
