Mixing Question: Kick Related

I've been mixing over 15 years, on various mixers (mostly Rane's) and I've come across this issue recently since I puchased a DJM800. As I'm transitioning and bringing the next track in, the kicks on many tracks seem to be canceling out each other. I've never experienced this on my Rane and I'm trying to compensate by either swapping kicks at certain times with the EQ or fiddling with the low frequencies as I bring the next track in.

It's just weird as I've never had this issue prior to using my DJM800. I've always managed to get smooth transitions from one kick to the next, I'm opening to suggestions or ideas on how to avoid this or what I may be doing wrong with the 800. Again with my MP I never experienced this issue. Thanks in advance.

I get this too - and I own an 800 also.

This has been discussed before however. On occasions I'd hear this happen in a live set or in a club and somehow I find it quite an exciting effect, especially if the music is 140bpm+.

However, you'll find that a quick flick of one track or another will bring things back in line.

As far as I can work out this seems to happen when two beats are very *very* slightly off, rather than perfectly overlaid, so a little more accuracy might help, easier said than done I know.

I thought this had been discussed before we came to the conclusion that it's because the two records share very similar kicks and that they are perfectly on top of each other which means that the clashing frequencies cancel each other out - giving a type of phaser effect.

i get this sometimes too - not with a high end mixer tho, but usually some tweaking with the EQ's sorts it out or just a lil nudge one way or another on the track coming in. can sometimes make the beats sound flat and in some cases can mess the mix up but when u then drop the bass of the old track and bring it in all of a sudden on the new 1 it can give a great energy vibe. gets a bit tiring when u have to keep doing it like that tho, hence the nudge option.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm pretty confident the beatmatches are spot on, but I'll have to make note next time of the type of kicks. I've found slightly compensating by nudging the track forward or behind can bring the mix slightly off beat, which is why I've stuck to messing with the EQ as an option. It just gets annoying sometimes.
