LCD troubles...

I consider TOTA to be a fairly resourceful place, so I am wondering if maybe you can help me with this problem.

I recently purchased a Samsung 940NW 19" widescreen LCD to use with my laptop when I am working at my desk. There are little horizontal bars (very faint and only noticeable on darker backgrounds) moving rapidly up and down the screen. So, I unplug the AC power from the laptop and the flickering stops. I plug the AC power back in, it starts again.

The monitor and laptop are plugged into the same surge protector, and I have tried on multiple outlets. It appears to be a ground loop coming from somewhere... but I can't figure out where.

Does anyone have experience with eliminating ground loops in home theatre systems? Any thoughts or ideas?

Any help is appreciated.

Sadly, I can't help you with your problem. electromagnetism is a weird thing - at my desk at work, I have a fluorescent light over a 21" CRT monitor, and everytime I turn on the light, the picture in the monitor starts shaking and loses focus.

Do you have a TV plugged in anywhere in the area? If so it might be the reason for the the ground loop and all you need is a ground isolator to fix the problem. If it's an issue with your speakers though, that's more complicated to fix by using a ground lift. It could also be coming from a fluorescent light, only way to know is to isolate it. I've never heard of a laptop causing a ground loop though, if it is it again could be solved using a ground lift. Play around with it and do some reading on eliminating ground loops and you'll figure it out.

The problem persists when you try connecting the laptop and monitor to two different outlets?

I've looked at this thread at least 5 times and it's registered in my head as "LSD troubles".
