Try a 16 dollar ground loop isolator from Radio Shack.


Edit: A ground loop isolator from wherever you can get it.

erm... i don't know much abour sound tech and whatnot, but if my soundcard is the one causing a noise problem, how will putting a loop isolator BEFORE it really help the recording?

You wont be able to fix the problem with software.
It is just like the common question of "can I remove the vocals from a track"
Your best bet is to get a cheap ground loop isolator such as miamitranceman suggested.

I got a ground loop isolator and was damn disappointed, it hardly did anything.

Well it does depend on exactly what your problem is and where it is.
The problem with computers and recording is the noise can be caused by so many different factors it is hard to tell.
An isolation transformer is just the most common solution.

Well when i put a new soundcard in the problem goes away.

I had a similar problem.
When I used any sound card along with my laptop I would get a certain hum but when I use the Serato sound card I get no hum at all.
The ground loop isolator did fix the problem with the other sound cards though.

My point is that unless you have the knowledge to assess the situation $20 is not much to pay for a device that solves the majority of these problems.

OK guys, but again, let's see if we're on the same page.

it's NOT the mixer (Allen & Heath XONE:92) or the sound sources (Pioneer CDJ-1000Mk3's) or even the tracks (i've played some of my own stuff, 100% digitally made, ie. no sound whatsoever other than the track) and still i get the hum. if we feed the mixer directly to a monitor, no hum, of course.

so, obviously, the problem is a crappy soundcard.

i ask about software, because i know quite a few apps are supposed to have noise reduction tools, in which you should be able to separate the hum from the track.

i would c if u can get a hold of another comp and try it on that before u say its ur comp cause i had a similar problem once but it wasnt my comp it was just a ground loop and thus was fixed with one of those isolator thingamajigs
