DJM-800 Sound Issues

Curious if anyone has had this issue, but on my DJM800 (which I just sold btw), has anyone had issues with it missing a "beat"?

Basically, out of the main & booth outputs, mine would skip a bass beat. It wouldn't skip it out of the headphones, but would miss it out of the main and booth outputs. Example, on 4/4 time, it would skip beat 3, then the next frame beat 2, then the next beat 3 again, etc. It wasn't consistent as to which beat it missed, other than it would miss a beat every frame.

Just curious to know if anyone else had the issue as well, as I only know one other that had the same issue. His was replaced since it was new. I sold mine to someone that wanted it, so I get the joys of finding a replacement now....

I have never heard of a mixer itself "missing a beat".

I would have checked a few things:

1, check all your cable connections (waggle them when connected to see if there is a loose connection - sometimes they can be vibrated loose on the kick and cause a rhythmic loose connection).

2, Check your gain staging - you could be overdriving the mixer causing a dropout of sound opposed to an over clip.

3, lastly any fx that was on could have been interfering

but I guess you'll never know now ....unless they ask for a refund!

Here's a really dumb questions that DJ RANN hinted on...

But you don't have the transform effect on, right?

Does the 800 let you preview effects in the headphones? If so, that theory goes out the window.

yea it does. to the thread creator-

make sure your transform effect isn't on or any other effect for that matter and make sure you dont have the effects cue'd up. are you only hearing this in the master output? can you monitor the record output or the digital output and see if you get the same result? switch from XLR to 1/4" and to the booth output and see where the problem is...can you hear it in your cue?

I checked all of what was mentioned - cables were good, no effects on, never "overdrove" the mixer - no problems on that end. Like I said, I had another friend that had the same issue with his. Was just curious to know if anyone else had the problem.

No, you won't hear it in the cue. I'll see if I can splice a part of a mix I have recorded on it so you can hear what I am talking about. Now that I think about it, since it was on the recording, it comes out of the recording output as well.
