Road Case ALL THE WAY!
Hey everyone just reading through the forums, picking up tips and tricks wherever I go. Came across this one and was curious to read what people think about transporting and protecting their investments.
Personally, I am going to have to go with Allied Nations on this. It's really not about whether it's CDs or records or tapes, it's about it being your art. This is what you play. Why not protect it with everything in your means? I guarantee you that you'll slack off, and it will be your favorite disc that gets screwed up or something. If you want them protected, go with a case.
Peace of mind, protection, there are a few reasons to keep your stuff protected. Another of them being that you never have any idea who the hell is going to show up in that booth. I witnessed an incident where I'm the booth coming off a set and new dude was coming in. With the set change, some people took their breathers. Well this one dude, drunk high or whatever, but a regular I guess, since he was allowed to approach the booth, was so spent that he decided that he needed to set down right then and there...RIGHT ON THE DUDE'S MUSIC BAG! I don't know if anything got damaged but just the thought of it gave me the chills.
The comment was made that one can simply reburn the stuff. That is likely true however, in my case, I do heavy editing and prep on every CD I have, and so I have much time invested in them. I sure don't want to have to go back and burn them again, if I can avoid it (of course I do make backups, just in case). Maybe you don't have backups of any one particular CD. If you can easily retrieve the lost music or don't do any work on it, then maybe buying a professional case isn't necessary. My point is this, if you can protect your stuff as best you can, and you consider it valuable enough, by all means, spend the money and get something that can withstand the unforeseen. Some patron spilling a drink, someone drops something, a jackass doesn't look to see where he's sitting. My music is an investment of time, energy, effort, and whatnot. I'd be pissed beyond measure if something happened to them and it could have been avoided by my spending some money.
So just take some time to think about it all. How important is your music? How upset would you be if something happened and you lost some, and make your decision accordingly.
Peace out guys.
