getting a job

i have never had a job besides picking blueberries, and volunteering in a kitchen for 3 years.

Im gonna grad in a week, so now I have to start working or something.

I have 2 problems.
1. I have no references or experience, how do i get around this?
2. Drug tests. I hear shit about them drug testing for like best buy and crappy places like that in america. Does canada do drug testing? I can't understand how minimum wage paying places would get enough employees honestly.

give me some insight you functioning people.

If you have no employee references, I'd just put character references from friends in instead and let them know on the application.

If you want to follow the dark side, you could always stick a false employment reference in and ask one of your mates to provide a reference about a 'job'. In the UK, they'd contact the number given in the reference. I thought about that years ago but didn't go through with it, but then i went to Uni.

hey beats and beeps, how are ya?

Um, yeah just lie for your references, if it is just a summer job you shouldn't give a shit. Just put your friends names down and say you worked under the table for them.

As far as references I would use one from the volunteer work and a couple from friends.

I'm pretty sure drug testing in Canada is illegal as it as deemed an invasion of privacy. The Canadian government has the right idea with this stuff. At least 30% of jobs in the US drug test. The only drug you have to worry about is weed though which stays in your system for up to a month depending on how heavy a user you are. Most other drugs are out of your system in 2 to 3 days.

You can get character references like others have said. If you do well in school, ask a teacher. Or ask a friend of the family or something.

As for experience, just because you've never done a particular job before, doesn't mean you don't have experience...you just have to be creative. Think of situations you've been in where your skills would also be relevant to the job you're applying for.

I find some key things that employers always look for are good time-management skills, and organizational skills. These translate into ANY job and are an asset.

And hmmmm, drug tests? I've never heard of that happening at any minimum wage type places in Ontario. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Yeah you can make shit up/exaggerate enormously about things you may or may not have done.

For example, I tutored kids with special needs in French for a year. By that I mean my French tutor got bored and fucked off for a cup of coffee and left me in charge with some thick kids (not actual special needs) for an hour.
