firewire audio interface

hi guys jus about to get myself a new audio interface for my macbook pro mainly just for outputs but will use the ins sometimes for recording tracks and mixes for demos etc onto Logic.

I have been looking a t a few different interfaces on firewire but my budget is defo tight being around the £200 range.

I have tried to stay away from USB, as I have had a few probs in the past.

Do you guys have any suggestions on what I should go for.
I only need a coulpe on ins and no less than 4 outs, 6 would be nice.

I decent headphone out and good sounding out would be very nice and if a midi was available this would also save some bother when I want to connect my portable controller.

I have looked at the Presonas, Firebox, Edirol FA66, Focusrite Sapphire and a couple other but just wondered if people had any experianec on these and other makes / models which I could consider.

If I had the money it would be a MOUT or RME without a doublt but the funding is just not available at present.

cheers in advance

I'll let you know when I get my ECHO Audiofire8... they have an Audiofire4 that would fit the bill. Check it out in the meantime.

would probably just go for the Echo 8 for the main reason of a Headphone out is a feature which I deffinatly will need for when I am portabel with my MBP which is pretty often

I hadnt even considered the Echo range to behonest. What is the quality like and also if someone uses the Echo 8....what is the quality of the headphone like because i'm going to be powering a pair of Sennheiser HD 650 which defo do need a good phone out.

The presonas apperantly have a really good phone out which would be very nice but I am just after various options for me to consider.

many thanks

Fearny

I've not used them myself but a going to purchase the Audiofire 12 after reading good reviews about the company, hardware and their quality drivers.

I hope it was because of me ^_^

Yeah, man, Echo stuff is great. Edirol FA* and Presonus Fireboxes can't really compete IMO - better ADC/DAC and really efficient drivers for just a little bit more. Look into the AudioFire 4, as someone already said!

Echo always made good cards - layla, gina and the groundbreaking (at the time) Mia.

And now they are making good quality firewire cards and have large number of input whch I need for my synths it can't get much better lol.
