I try not to use too much work by a single artist in a mix, especially not back to back. However, whether or not two tracks fit and keep the mix interesting is the most important. Having 15 tracks sounding the same might fit, but isn't interesting at all.

To me, it doesn't mean anything. However, there are labels which only release stuff in a very particular sound. If so, look at the previous point for my opinion.

I generally spin older stuff (2000-2003) so I can't really comment. That's just the style I prefer. I've always had an aversity against DJ's just playing the newest stuff for the sake of being upfront, but if you like it, spin it. Whether it's 30 minutes or 30 years old shouldn't matter.

Can't comment on the last point as I still have to record a proper demo mix yet.

Generally not, I often have to really justify to myself using 2 works by the same artist in one mix no matter where they are, lol.

Depends entirely on the label, something like Discover wouldn't work imo, but Vandit would.

I try to play stuff fairly recent, and try to avoid stuff that has/is being cained by loads, unless I really really like em.

Nope, I don't re-use tracks in subsequent mixes unless the mix is something different, like my A State Of Toot series or my giant Abelton favourite mixes.

I don’t really mix trance but I mix old school eurodance from the mid 90's. So here is what I have to say, hopefully it can help you.

When I create a mix I never really think of mixing back-to-back songs by the same artist. In fact I have only done it once. I would prefer to mix another song from another artist, it just seems to show off your skills more. Most of the time mixing songs from the same artist is to easy cause they usually sound very similar.

When it comes to mixing songs from the same label, I could careless. It’s all about what sounds good together.

For me it has nothing to do with spinning the HOTTEST tunes, all what I spin is old anyways. But I guess I could say I don’t like to spin the most popular stuff from that day. I am getting more and more into the rarer titles and artists. It’s bringing new things to the tables and expands your .mp3 library.

Just remember it’s all about what sounds good, and the more you have sometimes the easier it is to get good sets. Just keep practicing

unless i'm doing a tribute mix (), i have this fixation with avoiding the same artist in my mix, forget one after the other. just a personal thing, and its not like there is only one particular track there would go at a particular place in a mix.

to be honest, a lot of the time, i m not even aware of what label the track is from. if i like the track, and it goes with the flow of my mix, i use it. it turned out once that i had 60% of my tracks from a single label, but while mixing i wasnt aware of it.

again, personally, i absolutely LOVE putting in a classic, and most 'promo' mixes would generally have the latest tracks in it, but as far as im concerned, there is no such rule. also, i arrange my tracks by month and year 'according to the time i got them' and not by their release, so there is a lot of mix and match

somehow it seems re-using a track defeats the purpose of a new mix, because there is always either new or different material to use. you have say 10 tracks a mix, why use a single track twice, but there are times when i do. set openers or enders are a good example of re-used tracks
