FIrefox will not run on my system anymore

For a while I couldn't right-click/save as, which was moderatlely annoying but tolerable. Then two days ago my system had a hard reset while I was browsing in Firefox, and when I tried to reopen it afterwards it offered me the options of "Start a New Session" or "Restore Previous Session". I chose a new session. The program would open, and hang. Repeatedly. I've installed over the current program, and also uninstalled and re-installed. After re-installation, it still thinks it's restarting itself from the crash.

Any ideas?

does Firefox still crash for you? Yeah there must be some leftover data on your hard drive that's tied in with Firefox that doesn't get deleted when you do an uninstall. Here's a link that can help you if it doesn't crash.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=292121

try this.

1. Open Firefox
2. type "about :config"
3. in the "Filter:" box, type "browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash"

3a.if it does exist:
3a1.double click the line to make the value "false".

3b.else if it does not exist:
3b1.right click to make a "New Boolean value"
3b2.The new name is "browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash" and the new value is "false".

hopefully that will help you.

Will try that, thanks for taking the time to answer.

LOL I can't even keep Firefox open long enough to enter anything into the address bar.

Does the same happen when you start Firefox in safe mode? If so, you could try to uninstall and manually check whether there are any files left or registry entries left behind..

There might be a list of files / reg entries installed by Firefox floating around on the net (although I haven't found it yet). You could try and dig one up and check if all have been removed. Afterwards, try a new install.

On a side note, if anyone knows about a database / knowledge base containing overviews of which applications install what on your PC, I'd be interested in that.

ok i may have found the solution. check to see if this works:

1. go to the directory : C:\Documents and Settings\__USER NAME__\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\__RANDOM NAME__
2. if there is a file called 'sessionstore.js', delete it. This file does not exist when you don't have Firefox open, and is created once you start Firefox. Firefox may try to look for this file while being opened, and if it finds it, then it thinks you have a crashed session. Delete 'sessionstore.js' and see if it still crashes on you. If it still does, the Will Ferrell motivation tapes will help the computer smart up on you.

I've been having some problems with my firefox too since the latest update it did. WMP files aren't playing when they're embedded, I can't save pictures, and the download manager hasn't come up since i installed this update but any files except pictures will download. Haven't had any of the crashing problems though.

Thank you! Deleting sessionstore.js stopped that damn pop-up from coming up every time I opened Firefox, but it would still just open and hang. I decided I would just try and delete the entire Mozilla directory under Application Data (a directory I hadn't known even existed) as well as all of the Mozilla registry data, then I re-installed and it finally works.
