I took a music class a couple of years ago that was really low level theory stuff but hardly in depth.

I would totally flip out on a teacher if they said trance had no substance. A good trance song is about complex as a famous symphony or other work of classical music. So much planning goes into a track with chord progressions, arrangements, melodies, etc.

Trance is the modern day classical...most say if Beethoven or Mozart were alive today, they would be producing trance

how on earth does trance have no substance...
it should have more substance than average music

Buddy, you're so full of bullshit. Trance being just as deep as say any of Beethoven's symphonies? I've been taking music for the past 10 years (grade 12 high school) and have played classical music for that entire time and your post leads me to believe that you have never heard any classical music before. Go earn some history.

kinda hard to argue here...but trance has stories in it..some masterpieces like delerium - innocente (tiesto remix)....have as much impact on anyones soul as any classical musik will ever do.

I never said that trance didn't have depth because it does. hell it has more depth and more creativity than any other sort of popular music of today. My arguement (and it wasn't even to you) was that how can you belittle the amazing talents of mozart of vivaldi or any other of the great classical composers??? in fact, how can you even say that someone like van dyk, or tiesto is just as good as them? You can't. These men (and in fact women) were musical geniuses. There's more to music than being able to put together a trance track with your breakdowns, your use of synths ect...

and cut with this attitude of "OH NO! he disagreed!!! that constitutes a flame!!!!" cause it is quite detrimental to your arguements. and by your definition of "flames" you "flamed" me back, thus making you quite the hypocrite.

Woah dude, calm down there. I'm saying classical is very complex music and so is trance...I didn't say which is better or even which is more complex, I just said they have certain similarities. IMO, classical touches your soul as does a good trance track. People like Beethoven were musical genuises, the best trance producers are amazing musicians but I wouldn't exactly call them genuises.

It also seems you don't listen to trance because some songs are just as deep as a classical work. I don't listen to classical much but I have heard it before and took a whole class on it in high school. How about you back up your statements a bit more too?

i certainly like classical musik to some extent...but its the commercial value and mainstream that propelled it to its great popularity. MOST people arent aware of trance..because it remains deep within the depths of the underground hiding its value and essence from the mainstream. MOST people will never hear a superb trak like three drives on a vinyl- greece2000. I certainly compare this tune to some of the greatest classical tunes....JUST because a song lies in the 137 bpm and the other lies in the no beats at all...doesnt mean there isnt any comparison to be made. TRANCE has a powerful story written to it and must be interpreted by the listener. I certainly think the likes of some trance songs are much more powerful then some classical tunes.

You're also right about me being a newbie to trance music. I have only been listening to it for about 2 years now. But I have listened to practically everyone here who has recommended a song and I have DLed it. I'm merely suggesting that a peice of classical music written with about 50 different parts, all conveying various themes and melodies and emotions is quite a lot different and dare I say more complex than not just trance, but any sort of popular music today. I can almost guarentee that the DJs of today have been somehow influenced by the great composers of the 3 great eras of classical music.
